The past few days on Berk had been quite hectic. Hiccup had to go and renew a peace treaty with a neighboring tribe, the academy began holding dragon training classes for the teenagers, Hiccup was constantly being flooded with complaints about the village still being covered in ice or about homes torn apart after the aftermath of Drago Bludvist and his bewilderbeast, and Astrid had the pressure about running the academy and being wife to Berk's chief. She tried to help Hiccup as much as she could with his work load so he wouldn't have to do quite so much, but still yet the work kept piling up, as did the needs of the villagers, and to put it blankly, Hiccup and Astrid were exhausted.
Valka had noticed the exhaustion of the young couple and knew that they needed a break from all this working overtime. So, on a peaceful Saturday, she decided to let the two stay in bed for as long as they wanted. Valka had made sure to tell them the night before about how they needed a day off, and that she would be looking after the village for the day. Although Hiccup was a little reluctant to her offer, he finally gave in before collapsing into a deep slumber, a peaceful Astrid sleeping close to him.
Astrid's eyes slowly fluttered open, adjusting to the morning light that shone through the bedroom window. She yawned, stretching some and turning back to Hiccup, a smile dancing on her lips.
He looked so peaceful. His lips were slightly parted as he breathed, his unruly auburn hair was in disarray, but Astrid loved his messy hair. She longed to see his eyes though. Oh, those beautiful emerald eyes. And his voice, oh his voice. Just the sound of it made her heart melt.
Astrid gently ran her hand through Hiccup's hair, stroking him into an even deeper state of sleep. His chest rose up and down in perfect rythym, and his heart beat just like it should. All was well, and that satisfied Astrid.
Although, Hiccup began to stir beneath Astrid's touch. As he did so, Astrid calmly removed her hand and placed it at her side. She looked at Hiccup lovingly as he began to wake up from his good night's rest. As he stretched out his arms, a small yawn escaped his mouth, and Astrid let out a silent giggle.
"Morning, Babe," she greeted him, flashing her beautiful smile. Hiccup grinned back when he turned to her, and he placed a soft kiss on her head before wrapping his arms around her waist.
"Mornin', M'lady," me mumbled into her neck before giving her another kiss. "Sleep well?"
"Oh, definitely. And what about you? Are you still tired?"
"Actually, for once, I'm not," Hiccup chuckled as he pulled his wife a little closer. "I'm so glad that Mom offered us this day off."
"Me too," Astrid replied, wrapping her arms around Hiccup's middle. "It's kind of nice to take a break every once in a while, you know?"
"That I do, M'lady," Hiccup replied before kissing her head again. "I love you, Mrs. Haddock."
Astrid couldn't help but giggle. Ever since they got married four months back, Hiccup had been enjoying calling her "Mrs. Haddock". "Well, I love you, too, Mr. Haddock."
Hiccup chuckled once more as he snuggled close to Astrid to keep warm. He grabbed some of the blankets and pulled it over them a little farther.
"So, are we just going to stay in bed all day?" Astrid laughed. "Because I actually wouldn't mind."
"I was already planning on this," Hiccup admitted with a laugh. "Maybe we can just stay in bed for a bit longer and go on a flight later. How does that sound?"
"Perfect," Astrid spoke. "I'm fine with anything, as long as I'm with you."
