-Race To The Edge spoilers will be below-
Nineteen-year-old Astrid Hofferson sat placidly in her room on Dragon's Edge, propped up on her bed as she read some long forgotten entries of dragon classifications and islands that she had discovered with Hiccup when they created their own map of exploration together. Just hours before, Astrid had gone from chatting with Heather about boys and combat skills to witnessing the stealthy black-haired vigilante almost mercilessly slice off an unsuspecting Dagur's throat, and let's just say that Astrid never suspected Heather to be bloodthirsty for revenge. And she certainly was not prepared for the news that she was indeed the sister of Dagur. It was all a massive amount of information to take in. But that's not what made Astrid feel so down. It was the fact that she had reunited with a long lost friend and became so close to her in such a short period of time, only to see her run away once again, not sure if she'd ever see her once more. It tore Astrid to pieces. Things always had to go horribly wrong before they became right again.
But something Heather had mentioned previously drove Astrid insane with unanswered questions. Why were people asking if she and Hiccup "were a thing"? What had they done to make others assume that they were in a romantic relationship. Just because they had been best friends for several years didn't mean that they'd end up falling in love. They were just friends...right?
As much as Astrid hated to admit it, something always seemed to change in her when someone mentioned Hiccup. Her heart would rapidly skip a beat, the palms of her hands sweating. She just didn't understand it at all. Why would she feel so strange when thinking of her best friend?
There was no way she had feelings for him. Not possibly. Hiccup obviously never felt anything for her, otherwise he would have made a move in the past three years, or so Astrid figured. He obviously wasn't into her, so why should she develop feelings for him? Sure he was heroic, intelligent, handsome, and a dragon-rider, but in no way did that mean she was attracted to him in that way. They were simply friends and nothing more.
But the way she felt with Hiccup was unexplainable, especially when they had those quiet moments alone together. They would sit on the beach at night, the moon and constellations of stars illuminating the sky, the soft sounds of the waves echoing in the midnight water. The cool breeze ruffled their hair and helped them cool off from a long day of exhausting work. And Hiccup sat so close to her. She could nearly feel him breathe. And the way the moon lit up his emerald eyes and the way the wind played with his auburn hair, man, oh man, she couldn't help but want to stare. That's when she would have to do a reality check. They were only friends. Nothing more, nothing less. Friends. There was no indication of a romance blossoming between the two at any time in their lives. And to Astrid's surprise, this crushed her even more. What's better than loving and spending the rest of your life with your soul mate, your partner-in-crime?
"We're just friends," Astrid whispered, scribbling out a letter addressed to Hiccup that she had absentmindedly only begun to write. "Just friends."

A/N
This was relatively short but it's to the point. I just wanted to write a little drabble because I really needed to update my book and get my creative juices flowing. I'm putting the multi-shot "He's Mine" on hold for right now because that is honestly the hardest one shots I've had to write. So, I'll probably post some short and sweet little one shots like this to keep it going. They're fun and fast to write as well. :)
Okay but was I the only one who lost all my chill when we found out that Heather was Dagur's sister? And the friendship bonding scenes with Heather and Astrid were so cute I cannot. But we were basically Heather during the "boy talk" scene and you know it.
I hope you have a wonderful day and I love you so much! Write you soon.
