Hold Her

It was one out of those nine months of the year where snow howled like a beast on Berk. Everything was frozen. Houses, streets, food, Terrible Terrors (poor little guys), you name it! But on one particular day, the storm was the worst downfall of snow the Berkians had ever witnessed. Since the temperatures were dropping dramatically, and not even a tough muscled viking could stand the frigid weather, everyone was instructed to head to the Great Hall along with their dragons.

The gang consisted of fifteen year old Vikings, some more welcomed than others. But with all of them stuck in the Great Hall together with a load of villagers and the fire that crackled in the middle of it all, no one was quite sure how it would go down.

Snotlout hadn't caused a ruckus yet (thank goodness), the twins hadn't set anything on fire, Fishlegs was...well, he didn't really get into much trouble being the wimpiest Viking there was, Astrid had stayed sane, and Hiccup wasn't off rebelling against his father again. For once that stubborn Viking heeded his father's exact words.

"Hey, who ate my chicken leg?" Tuff questioned, becoming frustrated. "Was it Snotlout? Or was it you?" he jeered at his sister.

"Wasn't me. What would I need a chicken leg for?"

"To make me mad maybe?"

"Sure, whatever," Ruff huffed. "You just think what you want to."

"So you DID steal it!"

"Ugh," Ruff groaned, already tired of the new argument they were getting into.

Snotlout snickered as they bickered, holding Tuffnut's food behind his back. Hiccup just sighed and sat against a wall, fumbling a pencil in his hands.

"Hey," a soft female voice said.

Hiccup looked up to see Astrid, shivering like she had a bucket of freezing water dumped on her head.

"Hey! You okay? You're shivering up a storm."

"You think?" she shot back sarcastically.

Hiccup just eyed her for a moment, a small smirk escaping his lips as he looked around for something to warm her up. He didn't find anything though.

Soon enough, blankets were passed around, and the gang shared one huge one. Tuff and Ruff sat the farthest away they could from everyone else, Fishlegs and Snotlout were having an arm wrestling match (guess who won that), and Hiccup rested under the wool, motioning for Astrid to sit beside him.

"Oh, sorry Hiccup. I have to go stand watch by the doors-"

"Don't worry babe, I''ve got this."

Astrid groaned at Snotlout's remark in irritation. "Stop calling me that. Or else-"

"Or what? You'll punch me in the stomach or throw me on the ground like-ow!"

Astrid angrily shoved the arrogant Viking down on the floor with just one hand before dusting it off and making her way to the blanket. Once she reached it, she sat down beside Haddock, wrapped the blanket tight around her, and closed her eyes.

But still she was shivering, and she couldn't keep her eyes closed because the cold shocked her so much. Hiccup noticed this and wondered what he should do. Then he slowly brought an arm around Astrid's waist, expecting to flinch just as she would twist his arm backwards, but she didn't. Since he was making progress of getting her closer, he wrapped his arm around her tighter and pulled her over right beside him, their shoulders touching. Everything was still silent, but Astrid just smiled, leaning her head on Hiccup's shoulder. Both of them sighed, and Hiccup placed his head on Astrid's, her eyes closed and her body became warm.

Suddenly, someone cleared their throat, and the two teens jolted away from each other, seeing the chief towering above them. Astrid bit her lip in shyness and glanced the other way, messing with her bangs.

"Hey, Dad," Hiccup stated, feeling a bit awkward himself.

"Son," Stoick started. "I just wanted to let you know that the storm won't be clearing up anytime soon. We'll be in here for days."

"Well, that's quite alright," Hiccup said, slightly glancing towards Astrid. At least I get to spend more time with her, he thought.

"Alright then. Continue whatever you were doing with Astrid over there." Stoick gave a small wink, and walked off. He definitely didn't mind his son liking Astrid, but he hadn't even admitted his feelings for her yet.

"Astrid?" Hiccup asked, scooting a little closer to the girl. She stopped playing with her bangs and looked at him shyly, not sure what to say or do.

"You...um....I mean...we...uh..."

After a few seconds of silence, Astrid gripped Hiccup's tunic and pulled his lips to hers. Hiccup was shocked at first, but what was more surprising is that he didn't  hesitate to kiss back.

He wrapped an arm around her waist as one of Astrid's wrapped around his neck. Her lips feverishly kissed his, and both got lost in the moment. Astrid was so in love that she couldn't stop herself. That was the perfect moment. She didn't care who was watching.

Hiccup held her tighter, gently rubbing his hand on her back. The girl's hand ruffled Hiccup's auburn hair, him giving a small sigh as he still continued to kiss Astrid. They couldn't speak, but their unspoken words spoke for them.

Finally, after what seemed like minutes, the two broke apart, leaning their foreheads against each other. But when Astrid realized that she just forced Hiccup (or so she thought) into kissing her, her cheeks burned red and she ran off, leaving Hiccup stunned for a moment.

"Astrid. Astrid wait!" Hiccup called, but she ignored his calls and ran to a secluded corner, her heart pulsing like someone had just scared her. Why would she even think of doing what she did? She just...had to kiss him.

"Astrid," Hiccup spoke, leaning down in front of her. She tried to turn away but he took her hands and brought her face to meet his. "Hey, why did you run off over there?" She didn't speak a word. That earned a sigh from Hiccup. "Please tell me why."

Then he understood. She was flustered, embarrassed, ashamed to do that. But why? It's not like he minded. He had to prove it to her.

He placed a second-long kiss on her lips before pulling away and looking into her ocean blue eyes. "Kiss me anytime you want."

Astrid just laughed as she felt herself begin to ease up a bit, and she motioned for Hiccup to take a seat beside her. "I'll make sure to remember that."

Then Hiccup went to get retrieve the blanket, and the both of them settled down, Astrid's head leaning on Hiccup's chest. If there was anything she loved more than kissing Hiccup, it was the sound of his heartbeat that made her feel alive.
