"Divination is often defined as tapping into hidden knowledge by some form of magic in order to discover information about the nature and condition of things. This new semester we will start with Scyring in other words the reading from reflecting surfaces."Nesrin gave a snide scoff and rolled her eyes. She didn't even know why she chose Divination in the first place. Their classroom in the North Tower was weird enough already. Flooded with teacups, pillows, chairs, tarot decks, crystals and parchment, it made you feel trapped and anxious. There was no color coordination or any other form of interior design, everything inside this room was just, there.
She had no talent in Divination and didn't even believe in it. The thought of being able to see in the future, through surfaces, hands or even coffee grounds, was just ridiculous. There was nothing precise about it, at least in her opinion. It was pure imagination.
"Don't tell me you actually believe in this stuff."
Estelle actually blushed slightly and started nibbling on her lower lip. When she was younger her mother would always try and get her into tarot, but it never interested her. Still, whenever her mom spread the deck, the cards were right, it was quite scary actually.
"I do. Believe me or not, but my mom is actually an incredible tarot reader."
"Alright, let's see if you've got her talent then. Tell me my future."
Estelle put one hand on the crystal ball and touched Nesrins hand, who was smiling at her cheekily, with the other. One thing they had learned at the beginning of the year was that focus was the most important thing. A bond to the other person, would also make it easier to see things, at least that's what her mom always said. In theory, you could try to see anyones future, but it gets easier the better you know someone.
The stronger the bound the clearer the vision.
Her eyes narrowed, trying to arrange her thoughts and emotions. Without a warning it hit her like a wave and everything around her seemed to slow down, everything except the image on the crystal ball.
At first the image seemed quite blurry, eventually it cleared a bit and she could make out three people, two of them being Sirius and Nesrin. The harder she tried to focus, and make out more details of the surrounding, more and more of the blur came back. The scenery changed: Nesrin stumbled backwards, while her eyes widened in shock and she could see Sirius face crying in agony. Never had she seen or felt something so frightening, it was enough to completely shatter her focus and the vision slipped away.
However the emotions stayed. Horror, despair and an overwhelming amount of sadness. It felt like her heart got ripped into two. The more she tried to go back, the more uncertain she got about where it happened. At first she thought she recognized the Astronomy Tower, but now, it could've been any room. The only thing she was certain about now was; Nesrin was in danger.
Estelle sat in her chair like she just got petrified and stared at the crystal without blinking, her eyes seemed to be glooming and her pupils were huge. Slowly, it started to get scary, it seemed like she fell into a trance, having a horrified look carved in her face. Nesrin had no idea what she must've seen, but according to her face it probably wasn't anything good. After a while, which felt like an eternity, she finally started to move again and just for a second she thought that she saw her blinking away some tears. A cold shiver went down her spine, when Estelle pulled her hand away. She had never seen her friend this frightened.
"What happened?"
"I'm not sure." Her voice was considerate. How should she tell her? She started fidgeting with her earrings and chewed on her lower lip, thinking. Whatever this was, she had no idea how to tell Nesrin. She wasn't even sure if it was a proper prediction, she could've just as well hallucinated all of that, maybe a side effect from her lack of sleep. Besides it was mostly blurry, and the more blurry a vision was, the more uncertain it is that it will occur.
