He hid beneath the covers, trying to block out his mother's screams, but he couldn't. Sirius and their mother fought almost every day, but this time it was really bad. The screaming had already been going on for an hour and he couldn't do anything against it. The last time he tried to calm his mother down he caught a slap in the face and Sirius forbid him to ever try and help him again. The reason for their fights was always the same. Sirius didn't agree with their families traditions and views, the most important being Toujours pur, meaning the belief of keeping magic inside already magical families exclusively, making those with pure blood superior to others. Looking at it logically, Regulus sided with his family. Magical blood was a gift, and should be treated as such. Sirius views were completely different, in his eyes every wizard is worth the same, and their blood shouldn't matter.
"Worse enough, that you're in Gryffindor and bringing shame over the house, you can't even manage to get good grades!"
Walburga Black has always favored Regulus over Sirius, but it had worsen, when the sorting hat put him into Gryffindor. He was now the biggest disgrace she could've imagined. Being one of the most ancient and noble houses, she believed in holding onto the old tradition of their family. Blood purity, as the most important, followed by getting sorted into Slytherin. It had already been a disappointment, when Sirius got sorted into Gryffindor. Although it wasn't really unexpected because he had always been rebellious, but he still disappointed her and their family.
"I can't believe you're my son. You're a disgrace to our family! This is who we're supposed to be!"
He heard a loud smack and quiet sobs. Carefully he stepped out of his bed and looked into the hallway. Sirius room was right across his, where he saw his mother leaving slamming the door shut. Afterwards he slid through his door and walked over to his brothers room. His body tense trying not to make any noise. He could hear his brothers quiet sobs through the door.
"It's me. Can I come in?"
The sobs stopped and Sirius opened the door, trying to give his little brother an encouraging smile. Behind the facade he could see him breaking. Entering the room, the aftermath was clearly visible. All of his books regarding anything but school were carelessly thrown on the floor, ashes covering them.
"She burned them. My friends letters. She just burned them." Sirius voice was thin, as he tried to not burst into tears again. He didn't want Regulus to be scared, he had to be strong for him. He took the newspaper his mom had thrown onto the bed and studied the front page.
Death Eater Terror Continues
-more people vanishingHe hated them, them and their pureblood mania. If standing up for the right thing meant getting a beating from his mother every now and then and getting called a disgrace, he gladly accepted that.
"Let me see."
Regulus had seated himself next to him and inspected the arm, which he stretched out to him with sad eyes. His hand reached for his wand naturally and he started touching the cuts with the tip carefully. You could see some scars from previous cuts, that he healed as well, because he wasn't as good at it back then they left thin silver scars. When the beating became more frequent he had more practice and could now close them without leaving any scars or traces.
"You can get into mad trouble, for that."
"I know."
