I just finished the "Scary Monsters" chapter and I'm so excited to see more of Diego!!

☆☆☆

You finally made it. There he was, not too far away from you, on his horse. His back was towards you, descending off the hill. His horse wasn't galloping, but it was seemingly taking it slow. It was a rare sight to see – the famous jokey, going with a slow steady pace instead of racing to the very end. You made sure to remember this as you doubted you would be able to see this sight ever again.

You had finally caught up to him, after your little meet-up yesterday. You had been following him all day long, unable to reach him or rip a single word out of him. He had left you with so many questions yesterday that you needed to talk to him as soon as possible.

And it wasn't like it was your first meet-up with the famous jockey. You knew Diego from before the Steel Ball Run race – both of you were jockeys. But you were certainly surprised when you found him on the start line on the twenty-fifth of September. Since you weren't that close of friends you hadn't made any real attempts at talking to him. And neither did he. It was like you didn't know about each other's existence at all.

Until yesterday. Until yesterday when he sat down at your table in the tavern like an old friend and ordered you a drink. You were so shocked at his sudden arrival that you hadn't even realized he was talking to you like you did that every day. And before you knew it, he was gone, only the last of his words lingering in your mind:

"So, we sealed the deal then! Catch you later."

Which of course made you panic. While you were frozen in your place from shock, he had made a deal, probably taking your silence as a yes. And if you knew anything, it was to not mess with Brando. You had probably agreed to something terrible or maybe have even fallen into one of his traps. You were sure he had set you up for a plan that would get you disqualified.

Either way, you needed to find him. Desperately. You didn't know why you needed to talk to him so badly, neither did you know what you were going to say. That you didn't want to be a part of his scheme? That you didn't listen to what he was saying the entire time? Or that you were never really his ally, and risk being shot by him right then and there? He had probably seen you tailing him throughout the entire day, how were you going to explain that? It was hopeless.

At the end of the day, you had finally caught up with him. You, along with your horse were tired from today, so you were glad that Diego was taking it slow. Or perhaps he got fed up with you stalking him and is finally giving you the chance to explain yourself. Maybe this was a part of the plan that you didn't know you agreed to. Or maybe it was even-

No, (Y/N), focus, you can't have your mind wandering off at such a moment!

You guided your horse towards him and soon enough you were next to him. Your horses were parallel to each other, you walking slightly behind him. Of course, he had noticed you approaching from a kilometer away but had decided to keep quiet. And now, he didn't immediately look at you, giving you the rare chance to admire him in this lighting.

The sun was setting. It had been a long day after all. And the last rays of the sunlit his features perfectly. His hair, golden as the sun, now seemingly shined with the way the light was reflecting from it. His features looked sharper, making you realize just how beautiful this man is. You had never seen the man up so close before and this was an opportunity you wouldn't miss. Looking at his face, you were left almost breathless. The light bounced off of his eyes, hitting them at the right angle to make them shine. And when they shifted to you, you felt your breath hitch in your throat, just because they were that breathtaking. Then his lips tugged upwards in a smirk when he noticed you staring.

"Like what you see?" his words pulled you out of your trance, making your cheeks heat up from embarrassment from being caught.

"No, I- No wait I didn't mean that- nono, don't think that I actually- UGH" you facepalmed, stumbling over your words. Great, now you looked like a complete idiot. And Diego was loving every second of it.

"I suppose you came here because of yesterday? You had been following me all day long. It is quite-"

"Well yes, actually-"

"Annoying." He managed to finish, not giving you a chance to speak. His eyes still haven't left you, tracking your every movement and taking notes of your ever reddening face.

"Sorry" you started after making sure there was nothing else he wanted to add. "for following you and for talking before you finished." He didn't give you any indicators that he actually forgave, so you just decided to go on "I was trailing behind you because I just needed to talk to you."

He raised an eyebrow, urging you to elaborate.

"W-well you see..." You started, embarrassment returning. Diego knew exactly what you were going to say, but he just enjoyed seeing you embarrassed so much. "yesterday when you talked to me... I didn't hear any of it. I don't know what I agreed to."

Diego's smirk grew and you couldn't bear to watch him make fun of you, so instead, you settled for watching the landscape. The jockey was mentally debating if he should tell you the honest truth or if he should keep toying with you. He decided it was time to tell you. After all, you had tried keeping up with his excellent speed all day long and not a lot of people could do that.

"Oh, at one point I just noticed you weren't listening to me. So, I made up the thing about a deal. I knew you would hear it and panic." He admitted, making you look at him in shock." I just wanted you to come back to me at one point so I can see you again."

You felt like your heart would burst out of your chest at any given moment. You had never, even in your wildest dreams imagined that Diego Brando would want to see you again. That Diego liked you. And Diego-fucking-Brando would admit to that first. It seemed too unreal to believe. Yet, here you were, listening to Diego.

"Yesterday I sat at your table because I couldn't take it anymore. I was sick from watching you from afar. But when I saw you weren't listening; I decided a little payback should be good."

Ok, maybe you were imagining it, but if you squinted your eyes you were almost sure that there was the tiniest of a blush forming on the jockey's face. But that was far from your fully red face. This seemed like some kind of a dream.

"I want you, (Y/N). And I have been for the longest time."

Both of your horses had stopped. You were looking at him, frozen in your place, meanwhile, Diego was awaiting a reaction. What were you feeling? Happy for him admitting his feelings? Embarrassed by how stupid you were? Everything was a mess in your head. And when he didn't receive any response from you, Diego rolled his eyes and yanked you forward by the neck of your shirt.

"Come here, you idiot"

That was all he said before kissing you.
