It was such a simple thing, yet it made you feel so scared and helpless. It was a simple crush. However, everything about it made you scared - you were scared she wouldn't return your feelings. You were scared you'd fuck up and that maybe she didn't even know you exist.
But every time you looked at her, you felt your heart flutter and beat against your chest. You couldn't help but look at her as if she was a goddess – everything about her seemed so perfect. From her stunning body to the tips of her silky black hair. Her presence was defiantly a blessing. You could even feel how you were unconsciously mirroring her actions. You were truly head over heels for Jolyne Cujoh.
Sure, it was kind of dumb how in love you were with the girl. Maybe it was even pitiful. But nothing could change your mind. And it seemed like your crush was growing each day, every time you saw her as she passed by you. At one point, you couldn't take it anymore. You needed to do something about it. You had to confess to her. You'd have to leave your fears behind and risk it. Even if she didn't like you back, you had to try.
That's what lead you to this awful, people-filled party. You'd never go to a party alone. Much less if you didn't know anyone here. Yet, here you were at a party held by some kid in the school. It seemed like the party was a big deal – there were so many people. Or perhaps it was just the kid that was popular. Either way, you didn't care.
A while ago, you'd overheard Jolyne talk with her friend about it. She would be here tonight. And you desperately needed to talk to her. So, you'd went to it, wearing your best dress and even the slightest of make-up. You wanted to impress her, or well, at least look your best when you were confessing. You'd made sure to arrive on time.
A part of you was hoping you'd be able to talk to some new people and maybe even befriend someone. Even if Jolyne didn't return your feelings you wanted to still have fun.
But for now, this plan was a complete failure. No one had talked to you, greeted you or even looked your way. You were just standing, back against a wall and a cup filled with an unknown liquid in your hand. You wouldn't drink it. It was obvious that this wasn't your place – you were standing out like a sore thumb. It has been almost two hours, and there was still no sight of Jolyne. Doubt had found its way inside you, scared she wouldn't actually come and that your time was wasted.
You would've heard if she'd arrived – her friend Hermes was always so loud. Not to mention that boys would be basically glued onto her the whole night. Oh, wait. Hermes. Your gaze dropped to your cup. She was always with Jolyne. Always. And sometimes, it seemed like they were more than just friends, more than just best friends. Right at this moment things clicked inside your mind – they were in a relationship.
The arrival of your crush went unnoticed by you. Jolyne had walked right in, followed by her two best friends. Maybe, if you had noticed her, you would've marveled her dress and how it clanged to her body. Perhaps you'd liked her green-and-black makeup. But you were too caught up in your head to do those things.
Perhaps this whole plan was destined to fail. You had no idea how you didn't notice this before. It was so obvious that there was something in between Hermes and Jolyne. How blind you'd been to the truth right in front of your eyes. Or maybe, you'd unconsciously realized that long time ago and were just denying it? You didn't want to seem like-
A boy rushed past you, bumping into you. Of course, he didn't even stop to apologize. Your fingers slipped and the cup fell out of your grasp. As if this was some kind of bad movie about high-school, the contents of the cup spilled onto someone.
"I-uhm... I'm sorry." You apologized. Thankfully, it wasn't someone you knew. Probably. But with horror you realized that people had stopped and were now looking at you. Millions and millions of eyes staring right at you. You gulped, taking a step back.
"Foo Fighters?" you heard Jolyne's voice. "What happened?"
Now you noticed who that was. It was the new student – sadly, one of Jolyne's friends. As you looked to the side your eyes met Jolyne's. Your eyes widened. You wanted to die right then and there. Your legs finally listened to you and you bolted out the room and out the house without a second thought.
Before you realized it, there were tears forming in the side of your eyes, threatening to fall and embarrass you even more. You kept running until you felt like you'd gone far away enough. At last, you found a lonesome bench. You buried your face in your hands and let the self-pity take over you.
"(Y/N)! Hey, you!" a voice startled you. You were surprised to see someone was looking for you, and even more surprised that it was Jolyne who was after you. You stared at her in disbelief as she came closer to you. And for a moment you thought she was here for some kind of wicked revenge. But your reflexes were too slow and very soon after she was in front of you.
"...(Y/N)," Jolyne lowered her voice, now having your full attention. It seemed like she wanted to say something but decided against it. "...Can I sit next to you?"
You meekly nodded. She sat. You scratched the side of your arm and took a breath. Perhaps it was time to talk to her. You finally had privacy and even if the preface was awful, you would try.
"Jolyne, I-I've been meaning to talk to you for a while now." you looked at her and she did the same; you took a deep breath. "I like you. A lot."
A moment of silence passed in between the two of you. You kept staring at her, searching for any kind of answer from her: any change in expression, any movement. But she stood unmoving. It was unnerving.
And then she burst out laughing. Your eyes widened and you felt the pit of your stomach twist. Was she rejecting you? Why the fuck was she laughing? You'd expected everything but this.
"U-uhm. I know there might be something in between you and Hermes but-"
Your words were once again cut off by her laughter. You hugged yourself, still looking at her for answers. At last, she finally managed to calm down and look at you again.
"God, you are so damn cute."
Your face grew a bright shade of red with her words. Before you had any opportunity to ask her what she meant, she continued.
"And no – there's nothing in between me and Hermes. We are just very good friends," She chuckled. "Besides she agreed to pose as my girlfriend so boys would leave me alone."
This still didn't calm you down.
"And,"
She placed one of her hands against your cheek and pulled you closer until your lips met in a small kiss. You, of course, were frozen in place which only made Jolyne chuckle and pull away.
"Yes, I like you too." You swallowed and looked at her, trying to process everything that was happening. "And yes, I will be your girlfriend."
You managed to give her a shaky thumbs up. "N-Nice."
