{Sonic} A Medieval Story

The King's Gambit

~Next week~ (Two hours until the coronation)

Sonic was sitting in an apple tree, somewhere outside of Mobius. He frowns as he watches all the townspeople have their own celebration for the coronation. 

"You know your father would have a heart attack if he saw you out here." Sonic jumps a little and turns to see Shadow standing by the tree. "Yeah, well, I'm just enjoying my last two hours of freedom...You here to take me back?" "I was but...I understand how you are feeling at this moment so," He climbs the tree and sits next to him, "I'll join you." 

Sonic smiles at him, "Thanks." Shadow nods once and they watch the townsfolk. They sit in silence for a while until Shadow remembered something, "So, your father said he doesn't want you to be surrounded by knights. You must be excited about that at least, right?" Sonic scoffs, then frowns, "Can't you tell by my face? I'm thrilled." "Alright, no need to be an ass."

Shadow pulls an apple from the tree and examines it a little, "You know, it's a lot worse than you think. Once the kingdoms merge, there's gonna be a lot more knights patrolling Mobius. And, you'll have even more knights watching your every move. As for our knights here, like yours truly, we will be in a different kingdom from time to time. Not to mention-" "Thank you, Shadow!" 

Shadow bites the apple, "Hey, I'm just saying, this is gonna be just as hard on the knights as it is for you. You, me, the knucklehead...we won't be together as often as before." Sonic shakes his head, still looking at the town, "Then why aren't you as angry as I am? Your whole life is about to change, and you don't say anything." "Because it's my job to keep everyone safe. As much as it sucks, Sonic, this merge is important. You know, sometimes...you have to do whatever it takes to protect the ones you care about." 

Sonic frowns at him, "Even if that means being unhappy for the rest of my life?" Shadow smirks at him and pats his back, then points toward a group of knights and a princess pulling into Mobius, "There's princess number one." "Or based on my father's wishes, princess number two." "Princess Sally really is Queen potential. But it's not like you have to pick her, right?" 

Shadow tosses his apple and hops out of the tree, "Come on, you gotta get ready for the party." Sonic sighs and watches the princess enter Mobius. "Hmm...she looks familiar."

~With the renegades~ (One hour until the Coronation)

Amy and the renegades are now pulling into Mobius, prepping themselves to enter the castle. They were riding horseback while Rouge admired her outfit, "As much as I loathe that pink ball of trash, I absolutely enjoy her skills. These knight uniforms make me actually want to be one. I especially love the rose." 

"Focus Rouge," Amy says as she sits behind Shade on the horse. "We're here for one thing only." Rouge smirks at her, "Oh, come on, Amy. Don't tell me you're not excited, too." She rolls her eyes and smiles, "Okay...I'm a little excited. This is gonna be our biggest job yet! They'll have no choice but to respect the renegades." 

Blaze smiles at her, "Now remember, Amy, we're gonna need you to mingle with as many people as you can. Do everything you possibly can to get us close to the crown. Shade and I will find a way to lure the guarding knights away long enough for Rouge to take it." Amy nods, "We have to find some way to get more information from Cream...I hope we're not the first ones here."
