~Flashback~

A young Shade and Amy were seen running through the forest as fast as their little legs could carry them. Shade was practically dragging Amy by the arm. For Shade, it proved to be tiring for her as Amy slowly gave up. In the end, Amy gave up completely, collapsing to the ground.

Shade frowned at her, "Amelia, come on! Those knights are after us. If you don't get up, you'll die!" Amy curled up into a ball, trembling, "I can't do it! Those knights...my parents..." Shade grabbed Amy's arm again and dragged her across the ground, "But...that...doesn't mean...you should give...up!"

She hopped up from the ground, snatching her hand away, "Why not?! There's nothing else for me here! They were all I had...and now, they're gone!" "But you're still here." "And that's good?! Who am I supposed to turn to when things go bad? There's no one here to tell me when I'm not holding my bow the right way. Or to tell me my hair looks pretty today. Or to tell me everything's gonna be okay. I only had them...and they're gone!"

Shade scoffs, "Yeah, well, you're not the only one who lost someone you cared about!" "You can't understand how I'm feeling! You don't know the first thing about me!" Shade folds her arms, "Because I didn't lose anyone, right?"

Amy's frown softened, and her eyes began to well up, "Shade..." Shade turns away from her, "Do not apologize for feeling as you do. Apologize for carelessly trying to throw away your life." "What?"

Shade's face heats up and she feels her eyes watering as she speaks, "One thing my father always reminded me every day for as long as I can remember is; Just because someone else's story ends doesn't mean yours should as well. You're still here for a reason. Whatever that reason may be is up to you, but you make the most of it."

Amy looked up to the sky, "My father taught me so much for as long as I can remember. No child my age would know half of the things I do, because of him...He was always gone so I had to learn how to protect myself and my mother during those times. He always taught me how to cope with him saying goodbye all the time, but he never taught me how to say goodbye forever. If I can't deal with this now...what happens later? Does it get worse? What do I even do without them?"

Shade turns back to her and sighs. She goes down to Amy's level, giving her a warm hug, "I felt the same when my family was killed right in front of me." Amy sniffled, then Shade continued, "I felt like that...until I met you." Amy's eyes widened, and she felt her body go numb.

Shade tightened the hug, "I know how you're feeling. I wish I had my family back too, but you can't give up now. Their death should give meaning to your life, don't waste it." Amy lowers her head, "What meaning does my life have now?" "Your life...gives my life meaning. You give me hope to keep fighting, so I will always fight for you. Because I...I don't want to lose you, too."

Amy's lip quivers until she eventually starts sobbing, returning the hug, "I'm sorry!" Shade smiles, patting her back, "It's gonna be okay. Now, are you gonna hide from the knights with me?" They pull away, and Amy nods, "But where are we gonna hide? There's not much hiding ground out here. And no offense, you don't look like the climbing type." Shade pouted at that remark. Suddenly the sound of someone laughing made them jump.
