I tied on my favourite apron and began pulling the pastries, muffins, cupcakes and cookies from the back rack and bringing them up front to the display cases. The special for today was the chocolate chip cookies which took me two years to perfect. I don't mean to boast but they are the best I have ever tasted, and they are the best anyone would ever taste. Since I am situated around the business area all the top-notch CEOs and investment bankers come here for lunch so around noon all my pastries are sold out.
Just as I handed the box of cupcakes to a customer, I heard the bell tinkle normally I would not bother to look but for some unknown reason I looked up to see the one and only ,Derek, enter, at first he looked so weird and out of place because everything in this shop was a light shade of pink and white and then he comes in with his manly presence lets not forget Mr. hotshot ,the guy who has been coming here for the past week for Adeline, they honestly would make a cute couple. He scanned the café minutely before his eyes landed on me allowing a small smile to tug on his lips which became contagious, because I was unknowingly smiling as well. Urgh snap out of it. I immediately wiped the smile off my face and straightened my posture as he approached me. "Hi! How can I help you?" I asked him sourly.
"I am in dire need of CPR..." he stopped for dramatic effect as he locked his eyes with mine and placed his elbow on the counter and leaned his head against his hand and said, "because you took my breathe away."
I copied his posed so now we just a few centimetres away and said "If that's the case a bakery is not an ideal place for you"
"Anywhere is an ideal place for me as long as you are there" his is pretty smooth today.
'Is coffee good for you" I asked in attempt of changing the topic as I returned to my normal position while he still remained but just gave me a sweeter childlike smile and drummed his fingers against his cheek and then nodded. That just made me take a long breath in and rolled my eyes and began to make his coffee. I knew my back was facing him, so I allowed my self to smile the entire time, the minute I was done I wiped the smile off my face and turned to hand him his coffee.
"you got a little tomato sauce there" he said and pointed towards my cheek causing my hand to fly up to my cheeks as I felt around so I could locate the sauce "I can't find it" I cried out making him to signal me to come closer. So, I leaned across the counter allowing him access to my face, but he picked the menu from the table to block our faces as he unexpectedly kissed me slowly and I trust me I didnt have the courage to push away . It was not like the other kiss we shared before this one was different... it was full of passion and love. Instead of it being aggressive he was slow this time it was almost as if he poured his heart into the kiss. I could feel him reluctantly pull away as he slowly tugged at my lip and he then placed the menu down and grabbed the coffee take away cup "If you going to blush, I have to give you a proper reason to do so" he added a wink and walked away with a smirk plastered on his face. Still as cocky as ever but nice to know that there was no tomato sauce on my face.
Finally, we were done for today, so I made sure to lock the doors properly before I walked back to the car. I placed the key in the ignition, but the car let out a small roar but never come to life, so I revved the car in hope that all it needed was a jump start but still nothing. Looks like I was walking home today. I grabbed my bag and tucked my hands in my pocket and began my journey of a thousand steps. I am just kidding my apartment was not far away from my café so there is no point in taking a cab I rather do some exercise.
Stars filled the sky like pale corn into freshly turned ground. It reminded me of the promising life in the darkness, a sense of warmth springing from the cold, the chilled yet refreshing breeze whipping across my face leaving a pungent scent of pine wood and rain that was yet to come. It was a shame that on this beautiful full moon night everyone stayed inside with a fear of mythical creatures. Every small town has stories but due to events in our neighbouring town known as beacon hills has left red lake petrified of full moon nights. They believe werewolves roam the street at night what a load full of crap so around six pm everyone is at home, however, since I spent an extra time in the café to do some paperwork it was already seven thirty so I am assuming by the time I reach home would be at eight by foot other than that by car it takes me only fifteen minutes. I might as well enjoy becoming one with nature on this path home, since I barely do any exercise.
When I was halfway home, I heard a roar and then I could hear someone struggling for their life. I immediately dug in my bag for some pepper spray and the minute I found it I followed the noise which was a back of the building I saw two people. I pulled a classic move that happens in all the horror movies...damn I should have phoned the police first but it was already to late.
One laid on the floor and the other person was towering over him with his back facing me. My hands began to tremble as I lifted the pepper spray in front of me as if it was a gun and said, "Let him go!"
The minute I said that the guy turned around and faced me, sending my heart into space like a Rocket ship. I could not believe the sight in front of me.
