chapter eight

It was the next day and the special operations squad was sitting outside, getting ready to train. I can tell that Oluo is up to something, but I'm not sure what it is. He's probably trying to get me back for... well, everything. Right now, he's in the tall grass, crouching and waiting for me to come closer.

"Oluo, are you trying to be a chameleon now? I thought acting like Levi was enough." I say. I can sense his shock from all the way over here and I start laughing, along with the rest of the squad (save Levi).

"H-how did you even know I was there?" he stutters, eyes as wide as saucers. He gets up from his spot and dusts off his pants.

"Call it a superpower." I reply, giving him a sweet smile, which only seemed to anger him.

"Tch, whatever." he says, stomping over to where the rest of us were sitting. We all talked for a while about our lives as scouts, and experiences, when Eld brings up a point.

"Y/n, there's something different about you. It's not in a bad way, i'm not saying you're a traitor or anything, but what are you hiding? You know you have to trust us, right? If you truly want to be a part of the squad, then there shouldn't be any secrets." I look down. How did he even know? Damn the Levi squad is good. What should I do? Should I really tell them? I look over at Petra, and she smiles encouragingly. They're right. If you truly want to be part of a team, then there shouldn't be any secrets. I look up and give them a small smile.

"You're right. I'll tell you." I inhale deeply and exhale. "I'm blind." Everyone is quiet.

Until Oluo starts laughing.

"BAHAHAH YOU REALLY EXPECT US TO BELIEVE THAT BULLSHIT?!?!?!" he roars in fits of laughter. I roll my eyes.

"You want me to prove it to you? Fine. You can blindfold me and I'll fight you." I say as Oluo gets up.

"Okay, you're on!" Oluo said, stretching. He bends over and mockingly touches his toes.

"Oluo, it's true!" Petra says, grabbing his hand. The others now look at Petra a little bit hurt. Oluo starts blushing and I bite back a smile. This wasn't exactly the time.

"You knew?" Gunther asked, incredulously. "You knew and didn't tell us?"

"I- it wasn't my story to tell." Petra says, hardening her voice and facial features. Believe it or not, she actually seemed a bit scary. The boys seemed shocked and recoiled a bit. I'm guessing Petra didn't get like this much. I stared at Petra and Oluo's conjoined hands and raised an eyebrow, smirking. Petra caught my eye, blushed furiously, and immediately let go.

"Well, what are you waiting for? I still only partially believe you, so let's fight. You're still blindfolded." Oluo said and I shrugged.

"If you say so."

And I took Oluo down in under one minute, smirking when I pinned him down. His face was on the floor, arm twisted backwards so I could break it if I wanted to. I let go and got up, dusting off my clothes. Petra was also smirking at her over confident friend on the floor and the other two were gawking. Then, I sensed Captain Clean Freak coming and whirled around to face him, blindfold still on.

"You did that blindfolded?" he asked, slightly impressed. I still don't understand how someone could live as emotionless as him. There was only one possible outcome: his childhood. It must have been bad for him to try to give up on his feelings.

"Well, actually, I'm blind sir." I admit, giving him a close lipped smile. His eyebrows shoot up and now he's really impressed. Looks like I finally broke through. Not really, though.
