chapter ten

It's the day of the 57th scouting expedition. We're going to see the world. Well, they are, anyways. I'll be able to smell it I guess. But, I'm not complaining. I'm kind of excited. I haven't gotten my first ODM kill yet, and I hope it's a big one. Maybe a ten, or even a thirteen meter. I self consciously smile, thinking of the world and what could lie out there. So many mysteries for mankind to find. I sigh. Everyone is on their horses, waiting for the gates of Wall Maria to open up. Even though I'm on Levi's squad, halfway through, my orders are to go to the right scouting wing. It's probably since I'm blind and on horseback. My "sight" isn't the best when it's like that, so I didn't feel bad when Erwin gave me those orders. I had just nodded and saluted, as he made sure I understood why.

"You ready, Y/n?" Petra asked? I had given her a huge hug before this because I had that horrible feeling again. I hugged all of my squad, except for Levi. Oluo struggled a bit and seemed a bit disgusted while trying to act like Levi, but gave in eventually. I know something bad is going to happen. I told Levi that, I told him my past experiences with this feeling. He said he would tell Erwin. But, all Erwin does is run on gambles. Something is definitely gonna go wrong, I know it will. Lots of people are going to be killed. I just hope it's not too much.

And as selfish as this may sound, I hope it's none of my friends. I cant have any more of my family dying on me. No more.

"Yeah. I'm ready." I finally reply, with a semi confident smile. Petra, Oluo, Gunther, and Eld had understood why I was to go to the right wing spotters. They knew I was blind. Eren on the other hand threw a fit. "it's too dangerous for her!" he had protested, but with no avail. I was going there no matter what. In the end, he was still grumpy, but gave in. I rolled my eyes, thinking of him. Suddenly, the walls started to opened up. When they did all the way, Erwin yelled out a command.

"FORWARD!" (sorry i forgot what he actually says ahhhh 😭)

And just like that, we're on our way.

The 57th Scouting Expedition has officially begun.

All the groups split immediately after we leave, having the Levi squad in the center. It's the safest place. Everyone was told something different so the traitor(s) would get confused. They are trying to get Eren, after all.

Right off the bat, we see a few red smoke signals, coming from the right. A titan. Petra fires another one to keep the chain going, and we change course with Erwin firing off a green flare. We need to come into contact with as little titans as possible. A little bit later, another red signal is shot off from where Sasha is supposed to be.

"Sasha..." I whisper, while shooting off another signal into the air. She's with two others, so I really hope she's safe. Eld looks at me.

"She's going to be fine." I nod, and keep my eyes and focus ahead of me. I cant dwell on all of that now. Some time passes when I hear another signal being shot off and the faint sound of screams. My eyebrows furrow as I look in that direction. It's coming from the right side.

"Y/n, is everything okay?" Petra asks. I shake my head.

"I hear screams and smoke signals being shot off. I feel like there's-" I get cut off by a black smoke signal coming into view.

"An abnormal." Oluo finishes.

"This far in?" Eren asks, and I sense some fear in him.

"They've got it covered. We need to focus on the task ahead of us." Levi says, and we continue on our way.

It's about halfway through the mission now. I nod to the others, and depart, heading to the right wing spotters. As I get slightly closer, I notice somethings off. Very off. There's practically nobody here. I retrace their footsteps and smell something I wish I hadn't.

Blood.
Lots of it.
And titans.

I push my black horse, Trigger, to go faster and when I reach there, I almost gag.

They were wiped out.

Slaughtered.

And now the titans saw me.

I know i'm not supposed to engage unless I had to, but my anger and rage rushed over me all at once. The titans ran to me, and I used my ODM gear to latch on to one of them.

Looks like my first ODM kill would be with a big one after all.

It was a fifteen meter. I swing around it as it try's to bite me. I see the nape, and use some gas to lunge, making a clean cut through its nape. I smirk.

"Which one of you unlucky bastards are next?"

I spot another big one, and hop onto it next. Might as well not waste my gas. There aren't buildings around here, a few trees yeah, but nothing much. I stand on top of it, and alice off some of its hair.

"Damn, you really need a haircut."

I think I have gone insane.
I slide down it's head, inserting my blades in as I slide down its back, now. The titan falls forward, and I jump onto a six meter titan, deciding to put it out of its misery quickly, I just cut its nape. Then, I use some gas to fly up onto a twelve meter.

I swing around, cutting nape after nape, until almost all of them are killed. I look at the rest. There are six more, and I have more than enough gas due to me hopping from titan to titan. Then, a familiar scent hits my nose and I spot it. The titan that killed my mother and god know who else.

I see red.
All I see is red.
There's a titan standing in front of me
And I'm going to kill it.
It took everything away from me.
And I won't let it happen again.

I swear it.
