The showdown between the princes and the princess went on, in silence, for some time until prince Francis broke it by greeting Jenni. With a kiss on her hand, he said how beautiful she was, trying to deflect the obvious awkward mood at this goddam tea thing.
When he moved to greet Jennifer, I was able to finally see Wolff, and while not as angry as his master, he was definitely not a happy wolf either. Prince Cedric continued to be livid with his eyes still shining dangerously.
It took a gentle push from Wolff to make Cedric acknowledge princess Odette with a half-hearted bow. She, triumphantly, gave a big smile, for sure smug of what she had accomplished.
However, that smile disappeared right away when, instead of greeting Jenni, prince Cedric greeted me.
"Prince Cedric! How could you offer so little courtesy to Lady Jennifer of Mountnero! She is the oldest of them and higher on position." It was the first time princess Odette got up, beating her hands onto the table in a furious move.
Cedric offered no words, which soured her face even more. To avoid more conflict, Wolff intervened, serious and professional.
"Please your majesty, do not take prince Cedric's actions as a confrontation. It is a custom in our Empire to greet those we know best before the rest." Said the wolf boy, as he made a bow.
"I have no problems with that at all, so don't take it too wrong your majesty. I mean ... princess Odette." Intervened Jenni in order to smooth the stormy waters.
The princess still wasn't happy about it, but couldn't say more since Jenni didn't care. As they switch greetings, both princes were forward to their sitting places. Francis next to Odette and in front of Jennifer, while Cedric next to Francis.
Before he would sit, prince Cedric gave a look to me and to my table. He seemed conflicted about it. To avoid more problems, I just gave him a polite smile, wishing inside this tea shit ended already.
Cedric let out a deep breath and sat in his designated place. Since nothing escaped princess Odette on her domain, she gave a sly smile at seeing him like that.
"Don't worry prince Cedric, Miss Lucreatia will have company. I left a seat there for your aide to make her company." The shock on the table was great.
No matter how dubious Lucreatia's background was, having her sitting with an aide, even if he was a Royal one, was a slap on her dignity. Even worst, was having an unmarried Lady sitting alone with an unmarried boy, who was not from her family or engaged to her. Princess Odette was pushing the boundaries too much.
"Odette!" Warned prince Francis, as prince Cedric's face was starting to get obscured from the hate.
"What, brother? I heard they were friends. She even helped him." She again gave that nasty polite smile.
I didn't mind sitting arrangements and things like that. Who cares, right? While that was true, I still had this urge to punch that fucking shit smile out of her face.
Breathe.... breathe.... violence is not the answer. Violence is not the answer. Not the answer. Not for now.
"I don't mind making lady Lucreatia company, however, it wouldn't be becoming of me if I sat with a Lady of such great house. Please forgive me, your majesty." Again Wolff tried, like Jenni, to smooth things over and like her accomplished little. Barely enough to start a fight between the princess and Cedric.
Wolff came to my side, but instead of taking the place beside me, he chose to stay put.
I almost told him to sit, yet I couldn't do it, since it would only make things worst. For all ... except the hell princess.
