Yn's POV
Hailey and I walked back to Jay's truck together, food nestled safely in our arms. We opened our doors in sync and climbed inside, Hailey in the passenger's seat and me in the back. Jay glanced at what we had grabbed and scrunched his nose up in disgust.
"I can't believe you guys eat that crap," Jay said.
"We were hungry, and it's not like there were a lot of options," Hailey exclaimed and took a bite of her chocolate bar.
"You tell him Hails," I cheer and eat a piece of my chocolate bar, savoring it's flavor as it went down my throat.
"You guys are so similar, it scares me sometimes," Jay spoke.
"We're best friends, Jay," I point out. "And you should be happy that your partner and fiancee get along so well because we can all hang out together and it's not awkward."
"Speaking of awkward, what's going on between you and Adam? Don't get me wrong, I love that you're riding with Hailey and I, but aren't you and Adam supposed to be partners?" Jay asked.
I sighed and stopped myself from taking another bite of food. "Adam and Kim are dealing with some stuff, so I figured I'd let them work that out. Besides, I was planning on talking to Kevin later to see if he wanted to partner up for a bit. That way I don't have to see your face anymore."
Jay laughed. "You think that was funny?" Before I could respond, Jay's radio went off.
"Jay, it's legit been six hours now. How reliable is this CI of yours?" Adam questioned.
"Very," Jay replied. "If he said this is going to happen, it will. Look, I know this sucks, but we've had 34 heroin ODs in the past week on the South Side. I'm guessing 30 of those can be tied to Dante's crew."
"Hey. We've got a dark Impala with Texas plates," Kim stated through the radio.
"All right. This must be it. My CI said one of Dante's guys is going to park a car on Calumet and 87th. He's going to walk away, and then another associate is going to pick up the car drive off," Jay explained. I watched as a man parked the car in an alleyway, climbed out, and walked away. Someone else nearby then climbed into the car and started driving away.
"Is this our guy?" Hailey asked.
"Has to be. Move out," Jay ordered through his radio. We followed the car to a set of buildings, one of which the car pulled inside of. Jay parked his truck in the lot next to the factory, and Adam appeared seconds later in his jeep. "All right. Let's take him. Burgess, you and Yn hold down the front. The rest of us will go around back." I hopped out of the truck and stayed back along with Kim while Adam, Jay and Hailey headed inside.
"See anything?" Kim questioned minutes later as she looked around.
"Nothing. Maybe they got him," I suggest. Just then, my radio went off.
"Yn, we got our guy," Hailey spoke.
"Copy that," I reply. The guy we caught, Latrell Wade, claimed that his son, Sean Wade, was shot a few months ago, and the police did nothing to catch the killer. So, Latrell started digging into the murder himself to find out who murdered his son, and that included getting in with the Prophets. Now, Hailey, Jay and I were heading over to Homicide to see what we could find.
"Look who's slumming. How you doing, buddy?" a man asked and fist bumped Jay.
"Hailey, Yn, this is Gil Durham. Gil, this is my partner Hailey Upton and my fiancee Yn Ln," Jay introduced.
"I was wondering when I'd get to meet the woman crazy enough to get engaged to Jay," Gil admitted. "And of course, anyone who's partnered up with him must me tougher than nails seeing as he's a go-getter."
