Yn's POV

"We had a lot of hate crimes back when I was in Homicide" I say to Kenny as we prepared for our case. "Yeah" he asked. "A lot of them dealt with racism. The things we saw in Homicide, well, I've got enough memories to last me a life time" I say. "Hey. You guys ready to present" Voight asked Kenny and I. "Yep" I say and take a spot next to the white board.

"We've printed the DOA at the ME's office. His name is Sandford Greg" Kenny said. "He's a registered sex offender. Five arrests for possession, three drunk and disorderly, two counts strong arm robbery, and four different restraining orders, including one from his mother. He's been in and out of prison since he was 16" I say. "According to the ME, the estimated time of death was midnight. Initial tox screens showed a cocktail of different narcotics in his blood" Kenny said.

"Okay, so, this guy either OD'd or bled out from the severed... you know" Kevin said. "Well, given his rap sheet, I'm sure there's no shortage of people who'd want to do this to him. We find out who, and whether or not it's a hate crime, sex assault, or self mutilation" Voight said. "Uh, Erin and I started canvassing all the pharmacies and the urgent care in the area. No walk-ins, no drive-ins, no ambulance runs" Jay said. "But we checked every place that sells gauze and plastic wrap, and we found a retail theft report. Basically says a man covered in blood stole bandages and medicine from a corner store" Erin said. "Good. You and Burgess" Voight said to Al.

After going out to gather more clues, we discovered that the night Sandford was killed, there was a possible sexual assault call in the same neighborhood. The man who called it in said a girl ran away from Sanford, and she headed towards the boys and girls club. We were able to find some security footage of her, and even got a name. Emily Vega. Al and Kim went out and got her, and now she was in the interview room. While that was happening, Kenny and I went to the morgue to talk to the examiner about Sandford's body.

"I understand your boy covered a lot of ground last night" the examiner said. "Yeah. How's that possible? You'd think an injury like that would be a night-ender" Kenny said. "There's only one principle artery in the penis. In an incidence like this, there's a 60% chance it retracts. Clamps itself off to prevent a hemodynamic event" the woman said. "Retracts? I don't understand" I say. "Trust me, you don't want to know. So, if he didn't bleed out, you're saying it was an OD" Kenny asked. "No" the examiner said. 

"So then what's the cause of death" I ask. "You see the broken blood vessels around the peri-orbital area" she asked and pointed to Sandford's eyes. "Those little purple dots around his eyes" Kenny asked. "Yeah. They're called petechiae. They're indicators that the actual cause of death was strangulation. I didn't notice them at first, but once we got him cleaned up, I saw the engorgement on his trachea. This guy was choked to death" the examiner said.

"Emily Vega is claiming she was attacked around 9:45 pm at Pulaski Park. After she cut Sandford Greg, he wandered over to the corner store, arrived at 9:57, and left again two minutes later" Kim said. "The meta-data from the clerk's cell phone corroborates the time-line" Kenny said. "The blood work from both locations confirms his movements" Al added. "Okay, so, according to the ME, the time of death is around midnight. But, at around 7:45 am, the body is discovered here. That's eight miles from where the incident took place. So, if Emily didn't do it, who killed him, dumped his body, and why" Kim said. 

"Why are we ruling out Emily" Jay asked. "She's 105 pounds, soaking wet, and this guy's 6'2", 220. I don't buy that she choked him" Erin said. "Sure, but she could have had a friend finish him off. People lie through their teeth all the time, don't they" Jay asked and glanced at Erin. I looked between Jay and Erin, and saw that they were sort of mad at each other. Whatever was going on there, I was not going to be apart of it. "She's not ruled out. We're looking at everything. Let's take another run at her" Voight said to Kim.
