Y/n's POV
I couldn't remember how long I had my eyes closed for, but it felt like forever. My shoulder was burning, and I could feel a sticky substance leaking down my right arm. I wanted to look, but I feared that if I moved or even opened my eyes, I'd be killed. So I sat there in the passenger seat of the car, motionless, for an unknown amount of time. And the next thing I know, Adam is right next to me putting pressure on my wound.
"Y/n, hey," Adam greeted me. "Stay awake for me, okay? You're gonna be fine. What happened? Where's Kim?" All at once, the memories came rushing back, and tears flooded my eyes.
"I'm sorry," I sob and tilt my head so that I was looking at my partner. "She's gone."
"All right. I understand. Were you hit anywhere else?" Adam asked.
"The vest caught the second bullet," I tell him as he pressed down harder on my shoulder. I screwed my eyes shut, biting my tongue to keep myself from crying out, and my hand instinctively reached out to grasp Adam's arm. "Where's the rest of the team? Where's Jay?"
"They're on their way along with paramedics and more cops," Adam responded. "So hang in there." Intelligence were the first of the responders to arrive on the scene, and seconds after I saw the blue police lights in my peripheral, I could hear my husband exiting his truck.
"Y/n! Jay shouted and ran over to the car. "Are you okay? Is that blood?"
"I'm gonna be fine," I assure him. "Just get me out of this damn car please."
Together, Jay and Adam helped me climb out of the car, and while Adam continued keeping pressure on my wound, Jay draped one of my arms around his neck to keep me close and help me stagger towards the direction of the ambulance that had just arrived. Between the aching in my ribs and the searing pain in my shoulder, I was not feeling too good right now. Jay set me down on the back of the ambulance, and as a paramedic checked on my shoulder, the rest of Intelligence joined us.
"Y/n, you okay?" Voight quizzed when he saw my blood stained skin.
"I'll survive," I reply and wince as the paramedic jostled my shoulder to take my jacket off.
"Tell me happened here," Voight instructed. "You and Kim were just supposed to be staking out the house."
"That's what we were doing. We were sitting in her car laughing about something she had said when a man approached the car. He went after Kim first and knocked her unconscious. I tried to grab my gun, but with my seatbelt on I couldn't get to it fast enough. Then he shot at me twice. I blacked out for a few seconds, and when I woke back up, I could feel him checking for my pulse, so I held my breath and stayed still. The only reason I'm still alive is because he thought I was dead," I explain.
"And then what?" Voight prompted.
"I saw Kim struggling as he dragged her down the street," I continue. "But when she hit her head against the concrete, she got knocked unconscious. I wanted to save her, but with my shoulder, I couldn't do anything. If I would have moved, then he'd have seen me. And if he would have seen me, I'd be dead."
"You keep saying 'he', Y/n," Hailey brought up. "Who are you talking about?"
"Kent. He's the one that has her," I insist as the paramedic finished up my examination.
"Good news, you've just got a pretty nasty bruise on your ribs, and your shoulder wound isn't too extensive. You're lucky that it was just a graze. Otherwise it'd be much worse. That being said, that cut needs some stitches, so we've got to get you to the hospital," the woman informed me.
