Yn's POV

I came into work early to get my things set up before Jay and I had to do some street patrol. However, when I came in at 7:30, I found Jay asleep on the couch in the break room, and it looked like he was having a nightmare. I walked over and placed my hand on his shoulder to wake him up, and as soon as I did, he sprung awake, already aiming a fist at my face.

"Whoa! Calm down. You okay" I ask. "Yeah. I just came in to take a nap" Jay replied. "A nap? Jay, it's 7:30 in the morning" I say. Jay rubbed his eyes and checked his watch. "What are you doing here so early" he asked me. "I was coming to drop some stuff off before we have to do street patrol" I say. "Why did we agree to that again" Jay asked. "Because it pays extra.  Are you sure you're all right" I ask. "Yeah. It was just a bad dream" Jay said. "Okay. Lets go get some coffee, and then we can start patrol" I say. "Sounds good" he said.

After we got some coffee, we parked on a street and listened to the radio for calls. Most of them were either too far away, or something that Jay and I were not going to waste our time with. However, something soon caught my attention. "Units in 21 and units on the city-wide, we have multiple calls of a man with a gun. Randolph Park. Male, black, 5'11, wearing a hoodie and blue jeans" an officer said into the radio. "5021 George, hold us down on that. Advise responding; plainclothes officers will be on the scene" Jay said. "Copy that" the man replied.

Jay drove us to Randolph Park, and when I got out of Jay's truck, I realized I didn't have my vest. "Hey. Where's your vest" Jay asked me. "I guess I forgot it at the district" I say. "All right, then you stay out here and direct the back up where to go" Jay said. "What? No. I'll be fine without a vest" I say. "Yn" Jay said. "I said I'll be fine" I say and head towards the field house where the shots were heard from. "Shots were heard from the second floor. You guys good to go up there while I control the crowd" an officer asked. "Yeah. Lets go Jay" I say.

We walked up the stairs to the second floor and then began to look around. As Jay was peaking around a corner, I glanced up and saw that a man had his gun trained on Jay, his finger hovering over the trigger. "Jay! Look out" I shout and jump into action, tackling Jay to the floor. The man ran away, and for a few seconds, I thought we were good. However, I rolled off of Jay, and that's when the pain hit me. I looked down and saw a small hole in the material of my shirt, and then the blood started appearing.

Jay glanced over, and when he saw that I was injured, his face paled. "I've got you" he said and pressed both of his hands to my wound to keep it from bleeding. However, that wasn't working, and even more blood was staining my shirt. "This is 5021 George. I need you to roll an ambulance to the Randolph Park field house. My partner has been shot. We're on the second floor" Jay said into his radio. "An ambulance is headed your way. They're less then 5 minutes out" the man said.

"Did you hear that, Yn? An ambulance is close by. You're going to be okay" Jay said. "Don't make promises you can't keep" I say and cough, which sent a whole wave of pain through my body. "Yn, don't talk like that. Everything is going to be fine" Jay said. At that moment, I became very tired, and my eyes started drooping close. "Yn, hey. You have to stay awake. Can you do that for me" Jay asked. I nodded and strained to keep my eyes open, which was a near impossible task. "Now I know why bullet proof vests were invented. Getting shot hurts like hell" I mumble. Jay laughed, and I could see tears gathering in his eyes. "You're going to be okay. You're going to be okay" Jay kept repeating. "I'm fine dying right here, right now, if it means my last moment will be with you" I say softly. "What'd you say" Jay asked me. Before I could repeat what I said, a wave of sleepiness rolled over me, and I had no choice but to close my eyes.

Jay's POV

Yn's head slumped to the side, and when I felt for a pulse, I found one, but it was weak. Blood was soaking the whole front of Yn's shirt, and I didn't know how much longer she said. That's when the paramedics ran up the stairs, and I moved to the side to give them room. However, as soon as they got Yn onto a stretcher and placed her in the back of the ambulance, I climbed in after her. The ambulance ride seemed to take forever, but finally, we arrived at Chicago Med.
