All I had to think about was the field

All I had to think about was the field. The fake grass beneath my feet as I ran, the call of a pass from my teammates, the check of my breathing. I had done it a thousand times, game after game. It was easy by now. My feet dragged at just the right moment for me to score, the ball hitting the net perfectly.

"I don't want to jump the gun," coach smiled when he pulled me into his office. "But it looks like your back on the team."

"That's amazing," I smiled. "I don't even know what to say."

"Nothing. You've earned it, Beaumont. After dragging you out with all the media, I think it's time to get you back on the field."

"I've missed playing," I said.

"Well, you will still need to show up to a few press deals," coach reminded. "But anything else, press related, can be let go."

"As in Skyler?"

"Yes, you and Mr. Flores can let the little ruse dissolve if you please."

I had to say I was excited about letting Skyler go, although I still had doubts at this point. Andy and I hadn't been in the best place, nor had we spoken more than sex. It was all falling apart while everything else in my life fell into place. At times I found myself wishing we were back in college. Every fight we had was resolved rather easily. It didn't matter if it was with sex or a simple apology, we always found our way back to us.
