Chapter 35: Let Go

It's the worst. Losing someone you love is one of the worst pain one can feel. I stared at my mother's coffin and tears started to fall again.

My hands are trembling as I put my hand on the glass. She looks so calm and peaceful.

Kinagat ko ang labi ko para pigilan na naman ang mga hikbi ko. Nakatulala ako kay Mommy habang patuloy na bumabagsak ang mga luha ko.

All of a sudden, I feel like my life is no more meaningful. We've just reunited! Hindi ko matanggap na umalis agad siya. Na wala na siya.

I pray to God and beg... I am ready to give up everything I have for just one talk with her. I love her so much that seeing her inside her coffin kills me. I was not ready for this. And I will never be.

The thought that she's gone forever feels like my heart has been ripped from my chest and run through a paper shredder. It's like a part of my soul died. It feels like the world stopped spinning and I am in the center all by myself. And the sad thing is.. nothing would be enough for expressing my pain and nothing would make her come back.

"Adah, magpahinga ka muna.." si Vixie na lumapit sa akin.

"I'm okay Vix. Dito lang ako."

I heard her sigh.

"Pero hindi ka pa kumakain. Ako muna ang—"

"I said, I'm okay. I'll stay here with my Mom." Malamig na sinabi ko. Wala akong narinig na tugon sa kanya. She only taps my shoulders at umalis din.

Bumalik ang tingin ko kay Mommy. Our memories when we were together flooded my mind.

My mother and I are out grocery shopping. I was eight years old back then.

"Mommy, I want that chocolate." Turo ko sa isang brand ng chocolate na hindi pamilyar sa akin.

Tumingin si Mommy roon at umiling.

"You can't have that Adah. You're allergy to peanuts." She strictly said.

Ngumuso ako at pinanood siya na kumuha ng ilang bag ng cookies. Tumingin siya sa cellphone niya at maya-maya pa ay sumulyap sa cart.

"Oh! I forgot to buy some truffles!" aniya at tumingin sa akin. "You wait here Adah," bilin niya sabay tingin sa isang bodyguard na kasama namin para bantayan ako.

Nang mawala siya sa paningin ko ay muli akong bumaling sa chocolate na gusto ko. Kumuha ako ng isa at inihalo iyon sa mga pinamili ni Mommy. Luckily, she didn't notice it when we were paying.

Nang makauwi sa bahay, she motioned our house helps to arrange our groceries. Nang umakyat siya papunta sa kwarto niya, bumalik ako sa pantry para kuhanin ang chocolate na binili namin.

Mabilis ang pagpunta ko sa kwarto at kinain agad ang chocolate. I am on my third piece nang maramdaman ko ang paninikip ng dibdib ko. I feel itchy as well. I started panicking nang makitang mayroon na akong red marks.

Bumukas ang pinto at pumasok si Kuya Ax. Nang makita ako ay mabilis ang naging pagtakbo niya palapit sa akin.

"Adah! What happened?!" natatarantang tanong niya. I couldn't speak.

Buhat-buhat ako ni Kuya at hindi ko na nasundan pa ang sunod na pangyayari. All I know was I was rushed to the nearest hospital.

Nang magising ako, si Mommy agad ang bumungad sa akin. She looked relieved when she saw me open my eyes.

"Goodness! How are you feeling? Are you still in pain?" Nag-aalalang tanong niya.
