Day 14

Louis’ phone doesn’t even ring now. It goes straight to voicemail, the static on the other end waiting for Harry to leave his message thick, almost eerie in a sense. He hangs up and dials the number again.

“Hi!” Louis’ voice says enthusiastically, making Harry’s heart ache. “Sorry I can’t get to the phone right now. Leave your name and number and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible, okay? Have a kick ass day!”

The beeps sounds, but Harry does not hear it. He holds the phone against his ear tightly, his knuckles white from the strain. He seems to be staring at the floor, his eyes never moving until they fill up with tears. The anxiety is tearing him apart because what if his Louis is hurt? But, even worse, what if Louis is fine and is just ignoring him? He doesn’t think he could stand it if Louis is ignoring him.

Harry hasn’t left the hotel all day. Eloise left earlier to meet up with Kat and Niall at the bakery again, but told him that if he is still a nervous wreck when she gets back then she is taking him out, no exceptions.

He’s just so scared. He knows that Louis is probably fine, and that he probably is just busy at his job or college or something. But his heart still races when he gets a text, hoping it’s from Louis, and his hands still shake and his breathing still quickens when his mind goes crazy with thinking of all the possibilities. Is it really so hard for Louis to shoot him a quick text, telling Harry that he’s alright?

Harry just hopes that Louis will show up at the hotel tomorrow morning like they planned. If he doesn’t, well, Harry doesn’t know what he’ll do.

Suddenly, his phone starts ringing. He jumps and accidentally tosses it to the other side of the couch. He scrambles for it, not checking who it’s from in his excitement, and slides his finger across the screen to answer the call.

“Hello?”

“Harry, baby?”

He sighs, lying on his back on the couch. “Hi, Mom.” She’s called him about twenty times since they landed in the city, constantly worrying about his safety, no matter how many times Harry assures her that he’s perfectly alright.

“How are you?” she asks and he hears some pots clang together in the background.

“I’m okay. How are you? Gems good, too?”

“Yeah, we’re all good here, Sweetheart. How’s your search going?”

Harry pauses. He hasn’t told her anything about Louis in fear of how she’ll take it. She has never really told him her opinion on gay people, and he’s too apprehensive to ask.

“Erm, it’s going alright.”

“And how’s Eloise, and your new friends, too? What are their names again?”

“Kat and Niall, Mom. We’re all having a great time. Niall burned some cupcakes yesterday in the bakery. That was interesting to watch,” Harry says, chuckling.

“Well, I just wanted to check in. I can’t wait for you to come home, baby. Be safe.”

Harry rolls his eyes, but assures her that he will be. He tells her he loves her and then hangs up, staring at the ceiling in silence. That short conversation had helped him forget for a bit about Louis, but now that it is over he’s back to panicking.

Rolling onto his side, he pushes himself off of the couch and begins to sift through the grocery bags. They are running low on food and should go shopping again, but Harry isn’t exactly in the right mindset to do so. He grabs a package of fruit snacks and collapses on the sofa again, flipping on the television. Maybe if he distracts himself, it’ll make Louis’ reply come quicker.

Halfway through an episode of the Big Bang Theory, his phone goes off again. He adverts his gaze from the TV to see who it’s from. His stomach twists.

It’s from Jo.

Jo: Hey Harbear. I haven’t seen you in foreverrrr :( such a busy boy you are!

Jo: Meet me at the diner by your hotel in ten? I miss you.

He simply stares at the text for a good five minutes, wondering what to do. But then his jaw sets at thought of Louis possibly ignoring him. His fingers fly across the keyboard, making what will end up being a horrible mistake.

Harry: I’ll be there soon. I missed you too.

He slips on his hoodie and laces up his sneakers, stuffing his wallet, phone, and room key into his back pocket. Jo is waiting.

If only he had listened to his heart instead of his head.

A/N: :)

So, this is really short. Hopefully I'll be able to get another update in today. Just a reminder that this trip lasts until day 21, so if Harry screws something up he only has a week to fix it.

But after 21 ones there will still be more, don't worry.

Yeah, that's it I think. Comment your thoughts! It'll help me push to try and get that double update done.

Dedicated to @BlueCookies_3 Thanks for reading, love!
