When Eloise wakes up, she’s hit with a sense of dread. Something isn’t right, but what that something is, she doesn’t know.
She rolls over to see Harry still beside her, deep in a peaceful slumber. His eyes move quickly beneath his eyelids, showing that he’s dreaming. Turning the other way, she checks the alarm clock. Seven-twenty-two, it reads. Why is she up this early?
As Eloise begins to get ready for the day ahead, the feeling of uncertainty and of slight guilt grows stronger. She can’t seem to shake it off as she showers and dresses. It follows her through breakfast and multiple television shows, and it trudges behind her as she runs to the grocery store.
Harry is awake when she gets back, lounging on the couch with a bowl of fruit loops in his hand that he probably brought up from the continental breakfast in the lobby.
“Hey,” he murmurs, his gaze not leaving the screen of the TV.
“Hi,” Eloise says, unloading the few groceries. She plops down next to him on the sofa, drawing her feet up beside her and leaning into Harry’s side. “What do you want to do today?”
He shrugs, eating another mouthful.
“Are you alright?” she asks, sitting up.
He smiles softly at her, nodding. “Just in love, I think.”
The feeling from earlier hits Eloise smack in the gut. “W-with who?” she whispers, staring at the design of the cushion, her red hair covering her face.
There’s a knock on the door then. Harry jumps up to answer it, a wide grin on his face. Jo stands on the other side, twisting her hair around her finger and smacking a piece of gum. Her red lipstick is smeared ever so slightly on her teeth and her cheek, it being lighter in certain places.
“Hi, Harbear!” she squeals, throwing herself at him and planting kiss after kiss on his cheeks and lips. He chuckles, wrapping his arms tightly around her waist and nuzzling his head into the hair by her neck. He places a gentle kiss on the skin behind her ear.
“Harry!” she giggles.
“Sorry,” he says and winks. “I just couldn’t help myself.”
Eloise attempts not to gag. “So, uh, are you two a thing now?”
“Mhm,” Jo says happily, lacing her fingers with Harry’s. “We made it official last night.” She elegantly sits next to Eloise, her boyfriend standing next to them. “I say we start over, since we’ll be seeing a lot of each other now. After all, Harry refuses to stop talking to you, and I’m obviously not going anywhere.”
“Um, I don’t know,” she starts, glancing at Harry. He tilts his head to the side, frowning at her. Eloise sighs, knowing that she has to do this for Harry’s happiness. And from the looks of it, Louis isn’t coming back any time soon. “I mean, sure. I’m Eloise. Nice to meet you.”
Jo grasps Eloise’s hand in her own. “The pleasure’s all mine.”
Eloise let’s Harry take her place on the sofa in order to be with his new lover and now situates herself on the chair. The day is just starting, it isn’t even noon yet. Harry and Jo are curled into each other, giggling and whispering like a new high school couple.
A little while later, another knock sounds through the door. Eloise takes it upon herself to open it, figuring it must be housekeeping or something.
But it isn't housekeeping. It’s Louis.
“Hi!” he says excitedly, and Eloise knows his mood won’t last long. “So sorry for my absence, I’ll explain everything. But I thought I’d surprise Harry. Can I come in?”
She’s at a loss for words, looking anxiously between the couple on the couch and the boy in the doorway. The overjoyed boy whose eyes are soon to be shining with tears.
He shrugs and pushes past her, opening his mouth to say something when he sees the scene before him. He stops abruptly, just staring. Then his lip begins to quiver, his blinking becoming faster, and his breathing coming in short and shaky.
Harry doesn’t even notice. He’s too busy making out with his new girlfriend to see the crying boy in front of him. The crying boy he once called beautiful.
Louis inhales sharply, startling the two 'love birds'. He looks up, eyes locking with Harry’s.
“What a welcome,” he hisses, wiping some tears from his face. He turns on his heel, slamming the door behind him.
Eloise knows now what she was dreading.
A/N: At least Louis isn't dead, right?
