THE MONSTER HUNTER

"No matter the weather outside, one must/should always be prepared to enjoy the day- come what may."

Vanessa smiled as she held her cup of hot chocolate in her freezing palms. She loved being in Nespor, but she also needed to get back to her work of hunting down evil monsters. The Monster Hunter looked out of the clear glass window. The sound of thunder boomed much louder than war drums. The sky lit up with streaks of colorful lightning. What a beautiful sight! She had never seen such bright colors when it rained in any other place. The lightning and thunder in the sky all moved around the sky in a wonderful motion. The thunder moved in the sky with its own vibrant shades of violet. Then the lightning struck in the sky like gold and silver. It was like a coordinated dance movement. The people of Nespor called it magic rain. The slightest drop from it and any dead or dying plant could be brought back to life.

A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts and rain watching. Vanessa placed her mug on the coffee table and unlocked the door. She opened the door and was swept off her feet into a tight bear hug. Vanessa laughed and then later pleaded that she must be let go. Caeth winked at his iron lady. He did as she requested. She asked him if he already had his breakfast. He shook his head and then moved much closer towards Vanessa. He kissed her forehead and then he bent down on one knee. Vanessa stared in shock at him.

"Huh," she gasped.

"Would you do me the honor of-" said Caeth.

"Of course!" Vanessa exclaimed.

"Um," Caeth replied. "Would you like to go on a boat ride with me?" he asked.

"Oh." Vanessa responded somewhat disappointed.

"What's the matter Nessa?" he asked.

"Nothing." She said with a tear in her eye.

"Wait a minute- I see what's wrong. I should not have bent on one knee when asking you to go on a boat ride with me." Caeth said as he took Vanessa's hands and kissed them gently.

"I am okay," she said.

A short while later Caeth sat with Vanessa near the window and they watched the rain fall together. The colors of the rain were truly magical. All the plants seemed to be getting more alive with each raindrop. Caeth leaned towards Vanessa and he placed a bracelet in her left hand. She looked at it and beamed with so much joy. Her eyes seemed to sparkle too with happiness. Caeth then placed the bracelet around her wrist. It glowed a mix of colors. Scarlet, indigo, rose, maroon and cyan too.

Caeth told Vanessa about the bracelet. He said that it glowed with a range of colors only when worn by powerful warriors, or magical beings. Vanessa wondered if she could fall under both categories. Maybe. She had studied with great warriors- her Dad being the best. He even had taught her some magic skills to use against strong monsters. So far, she had not faced mighty magical creatures. When that day would come. She would be ready to bring that monster down. Caeth saw the determination now in Vanessa's eyes. Even at this moment he knew that she was thinking about taking down a monster. He now thought that maybe the boat ride might happen some other time. He smiled and kissed Vanessa on her cheek. She stared into Caeth's eyes and smiled at him. Her monster hunting could wait another day or two- even three, maybe a few more.

The two held hands and enjoyed the rest of their morning playing card games. They went around Nespor and searched for a place to have their lunch. The ground smelled so fresh after the rain. Caeth loved the smell of the ground right after rain. They found a small diner that had grilled food on the menu. Caeth could not believe his eyes. There was a stack of ribs being braaied. Vanessa thought that his eyes would pop out of his sockets. She laughed at Caeth's expression. He was like a little kid in a candy store. They sat down at one of the tables and enjoyed a great meal of grilled food- steak, ribs, fish and veggie meat kebabs. Caeth burped after his meal and Vanessa chuckled because the people that sat beside them shook their heads when Caeth burped. Caeth didn't mind being watched and getting attention for his actions. He enjoyed every minute of it. And he was not alone. Vanessa was having lunch with him. This was one of his favorite moments in his lifetime. How he loved being with the Monster Hunter. Vanessa loved spending time with Caeth. She wished that she could have such days with him for all her life.
