Part 33

Vanessa- (grips her falchion {sword} tightly) Voru, okay...are you ready?

Voru- (whimpers) Not really... can we make this quick?

Vanessa- (sighs) You must be kidding. You have to get used to these training sessions. (runs towards Voru)

Voru's heart starts racing. His ears pick up on the sound of her quick movements. Vanessa gets ready to almost hit her target. Voru jumps in the air. Then he spins backwards and lands on a nearby tree branch. He stops for a minute & starts to panick. The branch starts to slowly snap.

Vanessa- (gasps) Voru, take off your blindfolds now!

Voru does as he is told. But just as he takes them off, he comes crashing down into a bed of wild flowers. Fortunately for Voru, these ones don't have any thorns.

From a distance, an elderly dark being watches the whole scene. His eyes burn like fiery flames. He turns back into the shadows & tells himself that he'll continue keeping an eye on the Monster Hunter.

Caeth- So, Voru..how's the training going?

Vanessa- (smiles) The kid's got superb moves that's for sure.

Voru- (bows his head) It's because I have a fantastic teacher.

Caeth- (nods his head) Yeah. She's pretty awesome. (stares at Vanessa and then laughs nervously)

Vanessa- Thanks Voru. (looks at Caeth) Do you mind if we talk privately?

Caeth- (raises his eyebrows) Um. What's up?

Voru goes back to training. Caeth follows Vanessa to a more private area.

Vanessa- I think we're being watched.

Caeth- (concerned) What? I'll get more of the squads to come over here. They can be placed at different stations watching over you as you train Voru.

Vanessa- That really won't be necessary. I only thought I saw some shadow among the trees. It could have been nothing.

Caeth- Okay. (Looks deeply into Vanessa's eyes)

Vanessa almost says something. Then Caeth places his finger on her lips.

Caeth- Sshhh. Hush.

Vanessa stares at Caeth. What's he upto? He takes Vanessa's hand and kisses it.

Vanessa- I...

Caeth- Don't speak.

Vanessa- But..

Caeth- Vanessa, (shakes his head) all right. (sighs)

Vanessa- (laughs) I'm sorry. I wanted to tell you that today's training is still in progress.

Caeth- Oh. Right. (smiles) Let me not distract you then. (winks)

Vanessa- You're so funny Caeth. (winks back) And very silly, too.

Caeth- That's why you love me.

Vanessa- Yeah. (smiles)

Caeth bids adieu to Vanessa & Voru. He still has to check in on his pack that are stationed within the forest. Caeth has to get some training done with them as well. Vanessa only has to train with Voru.

Vanessa walks back to the training site. There she finds Voru working on his telekinesis. Vanessa waits to see what the kid can do. Voru at first could only pick up sticks with his mind. A short while later, he started practicing on moving boulders. At the beginning of the next phase of his power level increase, he barely lifted it on the ground. The boulder moved by a slight inch. But now...as Vanessa watched in shock, the lad managed to lift it off near the lake. Not only did he manage to do that, he also ended tossing it further away into the forest.

The dark being was back. He looked at the young kid. This kid was unbelievable. Hmm. Maybe he could be quite useful in doing Svrok's assignment. He didn't want to have to do all the work by himself. The dark being smiled. He changed into a shadow form. And dashed towards Voru.

Vanessa- Wow. (claps) Voru, that was incredible.

Voru was just about to turn towards Vanessa when he felt a strong dark force take over him. Voru fell to his knees. His eyes changed to the fiery demon's eye colour, then back again to Voru's. Vanessa hurried to Voru's side. She knelt beside him & asked if he needed to take a break.

The demon inside of him was trying its best to take over Voru. But the kid was putting up a fight. Vanessa wondered what was going on. When she heard Voru speak, he sounded not like himself.

Vanessa- Voru, are you sure you don't want to take a break?

Voru- (grunts) Eh, aargh...Van—nn..esssaaa.??

Vanessa- Voru? What's happening to you?

Voru's body started to shake. Vanessa did her best to pin & calm him down. That didn't work.

Meji- (laughs) Muahahah! Finally. I feel so much better.

Vanessa- What? Voru??

Meji- (scoffs) Huh. Nah. Your beloved pupil's gone. I'm sorry.

Vanessa- Voru, if you can hear me~ don't give up..(sobs).

Meji- Oh, come on. Don't worry. I'll make this quick.

Vanessa- (frowns) Why are you here? Who sent you?

Meji- No. I'm sure you can figure out who sent me here, Vanessa.

Vanessa- How do you know my name?

Meji- (crosses his arms) Okay. I'll give you 1 clue. I was sent by none other than..(smiles)~ Svrok.

Vanessa had had enough. She drew her sword. Then she stood there & looked at Voru. She couldn't do it. This was her student.

Meji- (cackles) Hehe! There is no way that you're going to hurt me. Remember, the kid is still alive. Let me put it this way, the lad may be seen physically, right~ other than that...he has no control over his mind.

Vanessa felt her hands losing grip on her sword. She wanted to give up hope. Then she realized that the only person that would defeat this demon was standing in front of her.

Vanessa- (chuckles) Ha. So, you think you've won? Is this all you have? Taking over a kid's body?

Meji stood in silence. This girl had lost her mind. Here she was laughing at him. How disrespectful!

Meji, full of rage, came with all his might ready to attack Vanessa. His eyes glowed a bright scarlet fiery colour. He was ready to destroy Vanessa with all his dark magic. Then he froze. What was going on? No matter how many times he tried to get closer to Vanessa, he failed to attack her.

Vanessa could not help herself. She laughed at how ridiculous the demon looked.

Meji- Why is this not working?

Voru in the depths of his mind had heard Vanessa's words. He smiled & stared at the demon inside his head. Meji gave a fierce look at Voru. And told him that he wasn't going anywhere. Voru nodded his head. Then told Meji that was all right with him. Voru started to take back control over his body. While that happened Meji felt his own strength diminishing. He was losing control over both Voru's mind and body.

Vanessa could sense the inner battle taking place. She saw the two spirits, that of Voru & Meji shift back and forth while Voru's main body stood still.

With a final cry of exhaustion, Voru managed to defeat Meji. The dark shadow left Voru. Meji went back into the shadows.

Vanessa- (sobs) Voru?

Voru gasped. He cried & laughed at the same time. Vanessa gave him a hug.

Vanessa- I'm sorry that I couldn't do anything.

Voru- (smiles) You did help me. Hearing your words gave me courage to fight on.
