Part 30

Voru stretched his arms and let out a loud yawn. Caeth grabbed one of the sticks on the ground and tossed it towards the young boy. Vanessa told the kid to look out. She was shocked at what happened later. The stick was just floating in the air, close to Voru's head. Vanessa was perplexed. What was going on?

Voru lost his focus and the stick fell to the ground. Caeth let out a booming cry of laughter.

Vanessa~ Could you two care to explain what that was all about?

Caeth~ Ha! I always love seeing this lad show off his powers.

Vanessa~ What powers? His mind trick?

Voru looked at Caeth and then Vanessa. He wanted to explain what he did. Before he even said a word, Caeth filled Vanessa in on Voru's abilities.

Caeth~ Ahem. (Clears his throat) My dear Vanessa. You see, Voru has a special rare power, in fact I'd say that it's mostly passed down because of his genetic make-up.

Vanessa~ What do you mean? I don't know much about this whole power gene pool thing.

Caeth~ In short, let me say it's all because of who his parents are. You see, his Dad is one of the legendary Alphas and his Mom is the most powerful mage.

Vanessa~ That is quite a mix. Er, so...he's a half-breed?

Caeth~ Uh. Sort of. But much more than that. Not only does he have his Dad's Alpha blood in him, he also has his Mom's touch of magic.

Voru chimed in, and he explained to Vanessa that it was tricky for him to learn what he was at first. Then later his parents decided that he had to train at least every day in order to learn how to control all his powers.

Vanessa bent down and gave Voru a hug. Caeth smiled and gave Voru a thumbs up.

The trio went to check on their prisoner. Svrok was seated on a log. It looked like he was awake with his back turned. Vanessa approached him and to her surprise she found that his eyes were closed.

Caeth~ How's our prisoner doing?

Vanessa~ You have to come see this for yourself.

Caeth walked over and shook his head. He waved his hand across Svrok's face. Svrok did not move an inch. Voru stood next to Caeth & noticed Svrok's palms were both placed on the knees.

Voru~ Caeth. This doesn't look good.

Caeth~ He looks fine to me. There is nowhere for him to run, or hide.

Voru~ From his seating position I thought he was not here.

Vanessa~ What.... did you say he's not here? But we are looking right at him.

Voru~ Yes. I know. I mean it looks like he's meditating.

Caeth~ There's no harm in that. (Caeth raised his left eyebrow and then seemed to be thinking really hard).

Vanessa~ Oh come on guys. Seriously? Where could his mind have wandered off to? Tell me.

Voru~ I am afraid to find out.

Svrok cackled because his plan had worked. He saw Caeth, Vanessa and Voru keeping a close watch on his physical form. They had no idea what he could do. For all they knew he could leave this one body, and find another.

Time was of the essence. He had to move quickly. There was no minute/second to spare. Svrok soared over the ttees and landed near the edge of the bush. He hoped that he would find the person\thing he was looking for.

There was a sound of branches cracking, snapping and twisting behind him. Caeth watched as one of the trees opened it's eyes and ancient marks appeared on the bark of the tree. Then the form of the tree changed. It appeared to become skeletal in nature. This thing stepped out from its rooted position and came walking closer towards the guest, Svrok.

Svrok leaned forward and bowed to the creature. The creature told Svrok to rise.

Lich~ What is it that you seek?

Svrok~ O, ancient being. I your servant have come to seek you aid at this grand hour. It's only you that can provide what I need. I, Svrok, only have one request.

Lich~ Speak. Let me hear this request Svrok. Tell me what it is that you need.

Svrok~ (Gently) I have been trapped and my strength is depleting fast. All that I ask of you, Ancient one, is that you supply me with more energy.

Lich~ So be it.

The Lich placed it's hands on Svrok's body. One hand one Svrok's left shoulder, the other on the right one, and the other two hands were placed on his chest.

Voru~ Ah! (In a panicked tone) His body is glowing with a reddish-gold energy.

Caeth~ Whoa. I have no idea what's happening to his body.

Vanessa didn't know what this meant. It proved that Voru was telling the truth. Svrok's physical form was on the log. But his spirit was somewhere else.

Caeth grabbed his blade, and told Voru & Vanessa that he was getting ready in case Svrok was planning to escape.

Svrok's body stopped glowing. He opened his eyes and Caeth pushed the blade right at Svrok's shoulder. The blade didn't touch Svrok. Caeth could not believe his eyes. Svrok was watching the three from the other side of the log now. The blade had only ended up going through the part of the log.

Vanessa and Voru carefully walked towards Svrok. They each were getting ready to pounce on him. They missed and ended up hitting each other on the head instead.

Caeth~ Don't let him get away!

Vanessa~ We are not!

Voru focused on tightening the ropes that were still on Svrok. Svrok smiled and let the kid try to use his powers for a short while. Voru noticed that Svrok was toying with him. He acted like the ropes were getting tighter. Svrok smiled when he saw that Voru realized that his trick wasn't working. Svrok spun around and the ropes fell to the ground.

Caeth jumped over the log and dashed over to Voru. He asked if he was okay. Voru smiled and nodded his head.

Vanessa ran towards Svrok with her sword in her hand. The moment that she was near Svrok his body was in the air. Vanessa stared at him. He was getting ready to fly away. This day was quite strange. She grabbed the end of the rope and managed to get a hold of his right foot.

Vanessa pulled with all her might. Svrok fell to the ground. Then he changed into a reddish-gold petal. Vanessa almost screamed. Which one was Svrok? There were so many reddish-gold petals on the ground. She heard Svrok's voice chanting around her.

Within a matter of seconds a gust of wind came hurling through the forest. All the petals were scattered in different directions.

Caeth~ Where is he?

Vanessa~ (Sighes) He's gone.

Voru~ I'm sorry Caeth. I'll track him down and find him.

Caeth~ There's no need for that right now Voru.

Vanessa~ Yeah. First you have to train some more before you plan on tracking anyone down.

Caeth~ And Svrok is no ordinary prisoner. If we plan on catching him we all have to get stronger.

Voru~ I guess you're right.
