Remus Lupin sat in the living room of the Black-Potter residence, the gang had all decide whilst things had been quiet for a while they should sit down and spend time together, whilst they can. It was Christmas Eve of 1978 the year was coming to a close and all that the lycanthrope could think about is how this could possibly be the last time that they were all together, happily. Everyone was huddled around the fire laughing and sipping on their hot chocolate, Eloise curled up into Sirius' side laughing at something Peter said as Lily and James were draped sleepily across the sofa giggling softly, Mia had even decided to make an appearance after her mourning, cracking a small smile her friends being the only ones able to break down her broken barrier. Alice and Frank were grinning ear to ear, the couple had told their friends that they had decided against having a large wedding ceremony and chose to elope privately instead with their parents as their witness'. They apologised profoundly for not telling their friends but were assured that it was okay and they had nothing to worry about, with the war going on a large wedding was not ideal "That won't stop us though" joked Sirius pulling Eloise into him as she giggled.
Remus watched his friends quietly with a small smile of his own on his face, his eyes occasionally drifting over to Eloise admiring the way the warm light stroked her features, her tan skin glowed in the firelight, the embers of the flame kissing her cheeks. Her bone structure was highlighted by the shadows, and Remus took this moment to really take in the girls features, he noticed how although James was too tanned with hazel eyes, Eloise's were green but sometimes appeared blue, and unlike James her hair was straight and neat, but James' was always messy and ruffled, James resembled their mother with his quick wit and facial structure, but Eloise was more like their father with her sarcasm, teasing and prominent Potter genes. It was strange comparing the twins, they were both so alike but so different, both were smart and ridiculously attractive, both were maternal, but..both James was more like their mother and Eloise their father, even if they were closer with the other parent.
There was no denying that Remus' staring was obvious but everyone seemed far too caught up in their own world to realise, Mia Colton however, did notice Remus staring at something or someone and so she followed his gaze only to find the person he was staring at was the girl she too once sent longing glances to. Mia stood up and slipped into the seat beside her werewolf friend. "You're being awfully obvious you know" she whispered snapping him out of his daze his cheeks flushing red.
"I-I-" stuttered Remus being caught
"Calm down Lupin" smiled the blonde "She is beautiful isn't she?"
"She is" agreed Remus with a sad smile "She's breathtaking" he sighed "I just wish she would look at me the way she looks at him you know? I don't understand why she went back to him"
"Because she loves him"
"But I love her"
"I know" smiled Mia gently "I did once too. I don't know what it is about her that has everyone falling in love with her, but she's just so-"
"Kind, beautiful, gentle, funny, smart, perfect"
"Perfect. yes" nodded Mia "I don't have feelings for her anymore but..I know what it feels like to love someone who doesn't love you back"
"But why? why doesn't she love me back?" he asked desperate for answers "It doesn't make sense, I was there to pick up the pieces of what he destroyed and I put her back together and I comforted her and yet she still chooses him. Why?"
"Because.." said Mia trying to work it out herself "Because sometimes cupid runs out of his precious little arrows and he can only get more when he uses his final one. So he only shoots one person instead of two."
"But why me?"
"Because one day you will love someone, and she will love you back- but maybe that person is not El" comforted Mia
"Thanks Mia" smiled Remus hugging the girl
"Anytime Loopy" she smiled nudging him lightly with her elbow "I don't want to alarm you but she's coming over" smiled Mia "I'll leave you to it" she said to which remus nodded as his blonde lesbian friend stood up and swapped placed with Eloise only to be tackled by Sirius and James, making her let out a loud laugh.
"Hey Rem" greeted Eloise sitting beside her friend and resting her head on his shoulder making him grin like a fool.
"Hey El" he smiled "What's up?" he asked knowing the girl clearly wanted something. Eloise smiled in excitement sitting up straight and looking at her friend as she crossed her legs.
"So I've been thinking" she grinned
"Oh god we're all doomed" joked Remus pretending to faint making Eloise gasp in offence "I'm joking love, go on..what have you been thinking about"
"My wedding" she answered making Remus' smile falter slightly and his heart dropped as he remembered he would have to watch the woman he was in love with get married to another. But he quickly regained his composure and plastered another very convincing smile on his face.
"What about it?" asked Remus "Are you having second thoughts? Because if you're about to confess your undying love for me" he joked making Eloise punch his arm lightly.
"Shove off" she laughed "Maybe in twenty years Rem, when Sirius is all wrinkly and not hot anymore" she joked making Sirius' head snap round.
"You what!"
"Nothing darling" she smiled blowing him a kiss "Just talking- anyway" she said turning back to Remus "I was thinking..well more like wondering...obviously little Fred and George are my ring bearers, Charlie and Bill are the flower children, and little Percy wanted to hold my flowers..I have my bridesmaids and James and Regulus said they would dance with me in place of dad, I have my maid of honour and Sirius has his best man and groomsmen..but, I don't have anyone to walk me down since dad..." Remus' eyes widened as he began to understand what the girl was asking of him and a smile set on his face. "So..I was wondering..since you've been one of my best friends for so long, would you walk me down? Please?"
"Oh El I would love to" smiled Remus ignoring his feelings for the girl in this moment because out of everyone she chose him. She chose him. "Are you sure? you don't want James or-"
"No" she said "I want you."
"Then I would gladly be the one to walk you down"
"Thanks Rem" she smiled kissing his cheek making him blush. "love you"
"Anything for you El" he smiled leaning into her embrace "Anything for you."
"Oi Moony! watch your hands" warned Sirius jokingly earning a middle finger from the half blood.
"Fuck off" he said releasing Eloise from his grip and watching as the girl walked back over to her fiancé kissing him lightly. A small smile was on his face because maybe she didn't love him the same way he loved her, but she loved him in a platonic way, and that was enough. Because for once in his life, Eloise chose him, and she wanted him nobody else.
