The sun was just starting to rise when you woke up from another nightmare. You groaned. You were lying on the ground, your body covered only by a thin sleeping bag. Sure enough your back did not thank you for that. Every once in a while you were actually a bit jealous of the boys sleeping outside in their hammocks, but by now you had kind of accepted it. And when it was raining outside you were actually thankful for sleeping in the homestead.
Your first day here was nearly three weeks ago now. You had settled pretty well. The majority of the boys were nice, but of course there were some dorks you just couldn't stand and you also kept a safe distance from everyone looking at you in an undressing-you-with-my-eyes way.
Yawning, you sat up and fluffed up your pillow. In the dim light you could only make out contours, but you knew by heart where everything was. You could hear snores coming from the bed next to you, making you laugh a bit.
Being the only girl in the glade had its advantages and disadvantages - your sleeping situation was one of the good things though. On your first day the boys had decided not to let you sleep outside so no one would try anything you weren't up to. Alby had allowed you to decide which of the Keepers you wanted to share a room with. You had to smile thinking back. Alby seemed to have a soft spot for you and you enjoyed it. He was actually really friendly and he knew a lot, not only about the glade.
Right on your first day you had learned how to deal with him. Don't ask too many questions, do what he says. Thinking about it, you seemed to have a very well working intuition when it came to people. You instantly knew a persons intentions when you looked at them and you could tell how to behave when they were around so they wouldn't get upset. You thanked whoever gave you that sixth sense silently because it really helped you around here.
Smiling to yourself, you shook your head. It was still very early and today was your day off, so there was no actual reason to already get up. But you weren't someone who enjoyed staying in bed for long. You wanted to do something the second you woke up, immediately feeling motivated for the day.
Breakfast wasn't ready yet, Frypan was probably just on his way to the kitchen. Maybe he needed help? But when you had tried out for the different jobs Frypan had kicked you out of the kitchen in an instant - which was an appropriate reaction to the fact you nearly burnt it down, cut your finger and didn't even manage to make yourself a sandwich. It probably wasn't a good idea to show up there.
You could shower though. Most of the boys were still sleeping, so you wouldn't be surprised by any of those shanks and you'd be fresh and clean for breakfast.
You stood up, still accompanied by loud snores from the boy next to you. Suddenly you had an idea. Shouting "Attack!", you let yourself fall down onto the sleeping figure, making sure not to hurt him by supporting yourself with your hands. When he groaned and opened his eyes you started tickling him, laughing at the situation.
For a second nothing happened and then the boy grabbed your hands, turning you around so he was on top of you. "Morning Gally!", you grinned, looking at his tired, kind-of-angry-but-its-you-so-not-really-angry face. He only grunted and yawned. "Rise and shine!", you stated, still in a good mood. You had stolen that sentence from Gally himself. It was the first one you heard when you had arrived here and now it was kind of your motto.
"Let me sleep (y/n), not everyone is such an early bird as you are", he sighed and rolled back onto his side. You only shrugged and then started to thrum your fingers on his chest. "Come on Gally, I want to shower and I need someone to stand guard", you explained.
You didn't expect Gally to be very happy about this, but he didn't really have a choice. When you had chosen him to be the one sharing his room with you - apparently a big surprise to everyone else, you hadn't quite understood why back then, but by now you realised Gally usually wasn't the person a Greenie would enjoy spending time with - Alby decided to make him responsible for you. Which meant giving you a tour, getting your stuff for you, showing you around, introducing you and standing guard for you when you showered.
"Fine", he sighed, obviously not amused, but you were okay with that. With a motivated "Great!" you jumped out of the bed and carefully stepped to the chair you had put all your things on. The chair was a new accessory added to Gallys room just for you - Gally had made it himself. You had flung all of your shirts (three, collectively), your two shorts and your towel over it.
Gally still hadn't moved when you reached the door, ready to open it. You turned around, frowning. "Are you coming?", you asked, trying to sound bothered although you were mainly just amused by how tired he seemed. He should have been used to waking up this early after over a year of being here. "Do I really have to?", he groaned. You laughed and threw your towel at him, trying to get him to stand up. He only put it under his head as a second pillow, making you exhale in annoyance. "Come on you lazy shank, get out of bed", you said, but Gally only raised his eyebrows. "Don't do that", he stated, leaving you completely confused. "Don't do what?", you asked, hands on your hips. "Don't use glader slang. It doesn't suit you."
You sighed in defeat. "Fine, I won't do it if you come with me now." But Gally still didn't move. The problem was, now he also had your towel, so you couldn't go without him. "Gally", you pouted, knowing you probably sounded like a little child trying to get what it wants. "Pleaseeeee."
When he didn't react, you had enough. "Good", you snapped and grabbed the towel lying on a small table next to you - Gally's towel. "I'm gonna go then. Hopefully one of the guys comes in so Alby gives you extra work for not watching me properly." You turned on your heel, opened the door in the same movement and stormed out of the room.
You were sure he wouldn't take that, so you ran down the corridor and out of the homestead, careful not to wake up the other Keepers. If Gally wanted to follow you and get his revenge, he'd first have to catch up. And you'd be in the showers before he even reached his door.
