My girlfriend - Sonya

I rested my head against the cold metal and buried my face in my hands, trying desperatly to steady my breath and stop the tears from falling. "You're good, you're okay", I repeated in a shaky voice, wiped the wetness from my cheeks and took a deep breath. "Okay", I murmured when I finally calmed down a bit and stopped crying. I had run into the medical tent when I had started to tear up outside. I couldn't even quite tell why I was so upset. Everything just seemed to be too much today.

"Hey", a soft voice spoke from beside me and I snapped around to face Sonya. In a hurry I pulled up my sleeve and dried all the tears left on my face. "Are you okay? I saw you storming off." 

I sighed and turned around again, tilting my head back so I wouldn't have to look at the girl. I sat in silence until she joined my side and kneeled down to look at my profile. "You can talk to me, you know? I'm here for you", she said and I closed my eyes with a sniff. I had known her ever since I was sent into the maze and a few weeks ago I had finally figured out that the weird feeling I got everytime she spoke to me wasn't a stomach ache. I had a crush on her. 

"I know", I sighed and looked back at her. She was frowning and there was a worried look in her eyes I had rarely seen. She looked stunning. Sonya raised her hand and brushed a loose strand of hair behind my ear. I gulped when her eyes met mine and opened my mouth as if I had finally wanted to say something but no words came out. The girl leant forward until I could feel her breath on my cheek and it was difficult for me to focus on her face. Nervously I let my gaze flicker down to her lips for a moment. Was this really happening? Was I dreaming? 

My eyes flew shut when she closed the space. Her hand moved to my cheek and she ended up cupping my face, my cheeks if possible growing redder than they had been from crying. Though I was hesitant at first, unsure of what to do with myself I somewhat grabbed hold of her wrist to keep it in place, not wanting her to ever let go. I felt like I was floating, my insides exploding, my whole body on fire and I couldn't help but lean into her touch. Eventually she backed off again and I inhaled with a grin just to open my eyes a moment later. 

Sonya was smiling and I tilted my head to the side a bit, letting go of her wrist so she could retreat her hands. "God I've been waiting to do that forever", she finally stated and I chuckled, trying to understand what had just happened. Sonya kissed me. Sonya kissed me?! "Not as long as me", I admitted and readjusted my legs so I was facing the girl in front of me. For a moment we just looked at each other and I forgot I had been breaking down just a few minutes ago. Then her smile turned into a mischievous one and I raised an eyebrow at her new expression. Usually this meant she had an idea for a prank or was going to do something hilarious no one could foresee. "Technically", she started and stopped for a second, pretending to think. "-technically you didn't." I raised another eyebrow. I hadn't seen that coming. "I kissed you", she continued and I chuckled agaon. I knew what she had in mind and I was too happy to not play along. 

"You did?", I asked and she nodded enthusiastically, making me laugh. "I think you have to remind me..." I trailed off and earned a wonderful laugh that I would never forget. I joined her laughter and for a second we simply enjoyed the moment, enjoyed each others company and happiness. When we had calmed down again and I caught her eye I finally tried to muster up the courage to tell her how I really felt. "Sonya-", I started and, lost for words, let my eyes scan the room in an attempt to hide my nervosity. 

Once my gaze laid on her again she raised her eyebrows and shot me a questioning look. "I really like you. And, not as a friend. And I didn't ever say anything because I was scared that you wouldn't feel the same or that you would think I'm weird for liking a girl or I would jeopardise our frienship or-" She cut me off by simply leaning forward and pecking my lips a second time. Then she tilted her head and looked at me with a cheeky smile. "I like you too", she simply said and I laughed at her childish expression. I really did like her. 

A bit later I was leaning against her torso with my back, a blanket carefully draped over my legs and my head rested in the crook of her neck. Sonya and I had been talking for the past few hours and at one point I got cold, she organised a blanket and now we were cuddling on one of the improvised beds in the tent. "Should we tell the others yet?", I asked and tried to look up at her though I couldn't really see much but her chin because of my odd position. 

I wanted to show everyone that finally I had confessed, wanted to be able to kiss her without fearing anyone would find out - but if she wasn't ready to tell anyone yet, I wouldn't rush her. "Are you kidding me?", she laughed and I frowned, not knowing whether her reaction was positive or negative. "I don't want to hide anything! I don't want to sneak secret kisses and make out just where we know no one will see us. I don't want to fear anyone catching us and letting our secret slip. If you wan't to be my girlfriend then everyone should know that you're just mine." My lips parted and I couldn't help the grin spreading across my face. She wanted me to be her girlfriend! 

"You want me to be your girlfriend?", I asked and shot up from my position to turn around and look at her. The blanket rustled as I moved and ended up falling to the ground because of my clumsiness, but I couldn't have cared less. "Of course I want you to be my girlfriend", Sonya laughed. I watched her face soften in admiration and couldn't quite grasp what had just happened. Everything from the moment I had stormed into the tent seemed like a daydream and I pinched myself just to be sure I wasn't hallucinating. "That's good", I eventually smiled. "Because I really want to be your girlfriend."
