(Y/n) had arrived at the Right Arm's hiding spot in the mountains a few months before Thomas and his friends had, and immediately proved herself helpful. She had been one of the few people in the "Last City", but fled weeks before finding the Right Arm. Having survived all this time in the Scorch on her own, she made quite a first impression, and later joined Mary as a medic as she'd been a nurse a few years before.
In the past few months she had shown that underestimating her was a mistake no one would make a second time. Though she wasn't made of stone as she still seemed to have a motherly instinct. The kids, who were with them and not stationed somewhere else to keep them safe, looked up to her and she cared for them - being one of the few people that didn't pretend they were incapable and had to be protected.
When the strange constellation of arrivals seemed to threaten the hideout in the mountains, (y/n) was at the front together with Harriet and Sonya. She trusted them as they claimed to know one of the boys and, though sceptical, brought the group to Vince. Just when one of the new girls fell over, she removed her face mask, abandoned her gun and kneeled down next to her.
"Don't you dare to shoot, Vince", she ordered, looking up at the man and then back down at the girl. "Get Mary instead." Vince didn't even have to get Mary. The nurse stormed out of her tent and explained the situation to everyone, though (y/n) only listened to half of it. Her attention was focused on the girl still lying unconscious in front of her.
"I need her in the tent", she suddenly demanded, getting up. She exchanged a worried glance with Mary, who understood and brought Thomas along. "You", (y/n) addressed the man that seemed to be the girls' father. "Pick her up with me, will you? We need to get her to the tent."
Mary was the one to inject the girl, now known as Brenda, with the enzyme in Thomas' blood. Finally, both of the nurses left, allowing the pair to sort out whatever they had to talk about. While Mary went to go and see Vince, (y/n) simply stepped out and inhaled deeply. She watched as the young girls she had learned to love talked and laughed with Aris, a boy they seemingly knew from their time in the maze. She felt happy for them, glad they had found their old friend.
"Is she okay?", someone suddenly asked and (y/n) turned around to face the man that had helped carrying Brenda. "For the moment", she answered truthfully and slightly tilted her head to get a better look at the stranger. He had to be her age, maybe a few years older. "Your daughter?", she questioned, noticing earlier just how close the two of them seemed, though not looking alike.
"No", the man laughed and (y/n) found herself admiring him. He was handsome, attractive even, and there was this aura about him she couldn't quite grasp - he fascinated her, just like a riddle that had to be solved. "It's a bit more complicated than that."
For a moment the two just looked at each other, feeling the same kind of familiarity. Though complete strangers, they seemed to share the same bond, the same kind of witty, sarcastic charm, the same preservation instinct.
"(Y/n)", she finally introduced herself and put out her hand for the man to take it. "Jorge", he answered, shaking it, his eyes not leaving her face. They were interrupted when Thomas stepped out of the tent, motioning for Jorge to go in and check on Brenda.
The one's left after the WCKD attack had left their hiding spot in a hurry, taking with them just what they could and needed, leaving a lot behind. They had to get away before WCKD returned. After weeks out in the Scorch, they had grown closer as a group and made their way to where the Right Arm had positioned its other camp - the only one actually knowing where it was being Vince, he led them. Though dehydrated and probably on the edge of death, they had arrived alive and were welcomed as old friends. While Thomas and his mates were planning to get Minho out of the WCKD facility, (y/n) and the others had started to relax a bit. They had agreed to help them, and (y/n) worked just as ambitious as Thomas, but something had changed inside of her. She was still her old self, without a doubt, but she had started to let her guard down - especially around Jorge and Frypan. She herself couldn't quite tell why, it just happened. And Jorge's flirting attempts sure as hell didn't help her build up her walls again.
"We can't just show up there and expect not to get killed", Newt remarked, interrupting the heated conversation Thomas and Vince were having while (y/n) was frowning, looking at the map they had spread out on a table. "Even he thinks it's a bad idea", Vince snapped and the girl rolled her eyes. "I never said that", Newt defended himself before Thomas could retort. (Y/n) sighed, rolled her shoulders back slightly and once again focused on the lines drawn on the map in front of her. Thomas had found out that Minho would be moved to a different facility by train and now had the mind-bendingly stupid, completely unplanned idea to just show up there and try to rescue him. Everyone knew it wouldn't be that easy.
"Hey", someone whispered and leaned their chin on (y/n)'s shoulder, nearly making her jump before she realised it had only been Jorge. "Idiot", she grunted and turned around to find herself just a few inches away from the man.
"You don't mean that", he smirked and she rolled her eyes a second time today. He knew perfectly well she was feeling some kind of attraction towards him, and she herself had seemed to have realised it too. "And what if I do?", she questioned and batted her eyes, leaning against the table behind her with her arms. The man laughed and grabbed her waist tight, catching her by surprise.
"Uh- guys, you do know we're still here, don't you?", Frypan interrupted and (y/n) raised an eyebrow, turning her head so she could look at the others, who were now all facing them. "Really?", she asked sarcastically and forced Jorge a step back so she could escape his grip. She picked up her jacket from the chair and walked out of the room, not without peaking back in with a smirk on her lips. "I'm gonna go get some fresh air then...", she trailed off, catching Jorge's eyes and winking as she finally closed the door behind her and inhaled the cool air outside. It was afternoon and the sun was slowly starting to set, painting the sky a bright orange. She threw the jacket around her shoulders carefree and leaned against the wall of the building, closing her eyes.
"You're a tease", someone suddenly sounded and she laughed, not hearing the door unlock. She opened her eyes again and flashed the man a faked grin. "Am I?", she asked innocently as Jorge put his hand to her waist again and forced her closer. The girl felt herself gulp and a smirk graced his face in response. "Scared?", he asked and (y/n) lowered her gaze to his lips for just a second. "Me?", she whispered. "Never."
