"How can you eat this stuff?", she gagged, watching her friends shovel shrimp soup in their mouths. She was disgusted. Though she was the only one who kept on complimenting Frypan's cooking, she was also the only one simply refusing to eat a lot of meals. Everything that had meat in it made her feel uncomfortable and she couldn't get herself to eat even a spoonful. Whereas all the others didn't seem to get her problem. But this, this was worse than ever.

"How can you not?", Zart asked after chewing on a particularly raw shrimp. "I've been working all day, I'd basically eat anything."

The girl let out another gagging noise and shook her head in disbelief. She had been working just the same, but would she eat a shoelace even if it was the last thing there is? No, though Zart probably would.

"Well you guys can have my portion then", she said and pushed the bowl of soup away from herself with a disgusted look, accompanied by cheers from her friends. She rolled her eyes as the boys started to argue about who would get to eat the extra meal. ("I'm a Builder! I've done harder work than you" "Just because your a Builder doesn't mean you get to eat that! I've been working just the same!" "I sliced the shucking things, I think I should get them" "How the shuck do you slice shrimps?" "They were dead when they came up the box!")

Finally, Winston took the bowl and simply poured everyone in reach a bit of its content into their own. When the common excitement had died down and everyone was chewing and slurping their soup peacefully, the girl sighed and got up.

"I'm gonna go beg Frypan for a slice of bread then", she stated and swung her legs off the makeshift bench they were all sitting on. She hadn't taken more than five steps when the boys broke the silence.
"She says that like she actually has to ask him", Clint shook his head. "She'll just walk in there and Frypan will already throw three freshly baked breads at her", Jeff added and she had to stifle a laugh while walking away. "I can still hear you shanks, you know?", she shouted without turning around and once she disappeared into the kitchen the boys broke out into laughter, snickering until they had all finished their lunch.

"Hey Fry", she greeted the Cook who was rambling around in a drawer. Trusting that the Builders had done their work well, she placed her arms on the improvised kitchen unit and swung her body up to sit on it. "Oh- hey, it's you", Frypan looked surprised and hid his face behind a big pot in attempt to hide the blush creeping up his face. "Yes it's me", the girl laughed as she let her feet dangle a bit and watched him rummage around. "I wanted to ask if you've maybe got a slice of bread left for me."

Frypan's face became visible once again. She only ever asked for extra food when she didn't want to eat the actual meal, which she always made sure he didn't take personally. "Let me guess, the shrimps disgusted you", he joked while turning away from her. She agreed, laughing apologetically. "I was actually planning to bake bread right now, it'd be ready in an hour. Does that work for you?" The girl grinned as he held up a big baking mould. He knew how much she loved the warm bread when it had just come out of the oven and was still smelling so amazingly, and the excited look on her face once again caused his cheeks to take on a shade of red. "That's perfect Fry! Thank you so much!" Enthusiastically she jumped off the wooden cupboard and threw her arms around the surprised Cook. Before the boy had even processed what just happened she was happily bouncing out of the kitchen again.

"You look like you've just seen a Griever, shank", a snickering Minho entered the kitchen just as the girl left. He had been forced to take a day off and decided to annoy all of his fellow Gladers instead - now it seemed to be Frypan's turn.

Minho didn't even have to ask why the Cook was so taken aback. He had greeted the girl before she disappeared to go back to work, and because he knew exactly what effect she had on Fry, his lips were curled into a smug smile. "Has someone got a crush on shebean?", he asked, pushing his bottom lip forward to mock the Cook. "Oh slim it", Frypan muttered, only opening drawers and getting out the ingredients he would need for the bread in response. Ignoring Minho seemed to be about the best option he had.

An hour later, he had shooed the Runner away from the kitchen, who had then joined his best friend and the girl in the gardens. "You're hungry", Minho noticed when he heard her stomach rumble. "I realised", she retorted and sent the boy a sarcastic smile. She really was hungy, but she wouldn't rush Frypan - not when he was baking bread just for her.

"Hey, I think your boyfriend's got your order ready." She rolled her eyes and straightened her back, glaring at the Runner. Sighing, she wiped her hands off on her pants and dug the top of her shovel into the dirt. "He's not my boyfriend", she stated as she turned around, waving at the Cook who had just stepped out of the kitchen to motion for her to come over.

"Better tell him that", Newt chuckled and the girl raised an eyebrow, looking back and forth between him and Frypan. "What do you mean?", she asked and now it was the boys turn to sigh exasperated. "You're oblivious, you know that?", he laughed and straightened his back too, giving Minho a side glance as the Runner began to snicker again. "He likes you."

This caught the girl by surprise. Her mouth fell open, blankly staring at the two boys in front of her and then turning around to continue blankly staring at a confused Frypan until he jogged over. "I've got your bread ready", he said with a smile, coming across as way more confident now that he had time to prepare himself for the conversation.

"You like me?", the girl blurted out, still looking shocked. The boys could see that she was simply too overwhelmed to notice that she was being tactless, but it didn't make a difference to Frypan, who stared at her speechless for a second before turning on his heel and running off, back to the kitchens.

"(Y/n)", Newt flicked his fingers in front of the girls' face. "Earth to (y/n)-" Finally, she seemed to break her trance and turned her head to the blonde with exasperation in her eyes. "You should talk to him", Minho suggested and she nodded, leaving the two boys who exchanged glances and started snickering once she was out of reach.

"Hey", she greeted the Cook softly, clearing her throat to make up for the slight stumble when she walked into the kitchen. Frypan was rummaging around, not responding to her, getting the bread from the oven and simply trying to ignore her, hoping she would go away.

"Please don't do that", she sighed and took the few steps to the sink to wash the dirt off her hands while speaking. "Don't ignore me Fry."

The boy turned around, placed the still steaming bread on a cupboard and faced the girl. He opened his mouth as if he wanted to say something, but closed it a second later when nothing came out. "You really like me?", she asked as she leant on the kitchen unit, and shot him a questioning look.

For a moment he hesitated, then his gaze flickered to the ground as he agreed, mumbling. The girl giggled and he looked up again, only to see she had stepped closer, now nothing but a few inches left between the two.

"That's good", she whispered and finally closed the space, catching the Cook by surprise. Her lips met his for just a brief moment, the touch soft and gentle, but meaningful. When she pulled away, she was smiling brightly. "Because I like you too."
