A/N This will be another switching POV chapter. Oh, and GAAAAAY chapter. Homophobes have been warned. Planning Zukka dates. My brain is in full gear. Prepare yourselves.
*Aang POV*
I wander around the shop, browsing the various flags, trans products and pamphlets. I pick out one that explains the flags and the identities behind them. I linger on asexuality for a bit. But I can't think about that. As inclusive as Air Nomad beliefs are, that is one thing that's out of the way. I'm sure this feeling is only temporary. (It's not) I do find a flag that is the actually gay flag. The rainbow we see all the time is the whole community. The gays actually have a flag, it looks a little like the lesbian flag, but in blue. I walk over to Zuko.
*Zuko POV*
I wander around looking at the flags. The transgender flag catches my eye. I like the colours, but I've looked into trans identities, but I don't fall within those lines. But there's one next to it. The tag says it's the nonbinary flag. But from my knowledge, nonbinary people are also trans. Why do they have their own flag? I notice Aang walking towards me.
"Hey Aang, do you know why nonbinary people get their own flag?" I ask him. He seems fairly knowledgeable on this subject.
"Oh, that one's simple. The trans flag does cover them, but it is mainly for binary trans people, for example, trans men and trans women. Nonbinary people don't fall within these binaries, but somewhere in between. It's different for all of them. That's why they get their own flag,"
"Thanks, Aang. Where'd you learn about all this stuff?"
"Well, when I came to Ba Sing Se, I wasn't really into anything so I just stayed home and watched whichever queer YouTuber popped up in my feed. I fell asleep to it sometimes," That sounds like Aang. I may have only known him for a couple of days, but I read people pretty quickly.
"That sounds fun. I might try it sometime,"
"Nice! But anyway, you've got options. You can get this one," he drags me over to the generic rainbow flag, "Or this one," He points to a flag with a series of blue stripes.
"So what's this one?" I ask him.
"Well, the rainbow is the one everyone just associates with gay and the blue one is gay men. It's kinda like the lesbian flag, but for men," He grins at me.
"How'd you know that?"
"This pamphlet. You can always learn something new," He holds up a pamphlet with a progressive pride flag on it that says "Pride flags and what they mean".
"Can I get one of those?" He smiles and pulls one out of his back pocket.
"I thought you might ask,"We continue looking around when a staff member walks up to us.
"Are you boys looking for something special?" They have a shirt with a nonbinary flag on it and green hair, with half their head shaved.
"No, we found what we were looking for. We're just browsing now," Aang says. Something seems to catch his eye. He whips around and grabs something. "Zuko, they have CAPES!" his eyes are huge.
"They do. Are you gonna get one?" Aang's grabbed a one that has the pan flag on it and is running around the shop, somehow managing not to hit anything. He stares directly at me.
"YES," I laugh, causing him to grin and throws a rainbow one at me. I grab it and put it on for him. I continue looking at the shirts.
"So, are you two dating?" The staff member from earlier asks. I turn bright red.
"Nah, we just met yesterday. Zuko didn't have a flag, so I had to get him one and get him in the community," this makes me way less embarrassed.
"That's cool. By the way guys, the shop is also a safe space. If you ever need to come to a place where no one will judge you and hang out, you can come here!" They walk over to some other customers.
"ZUKO! I just had the best idea in the entire world. We should throw you a coming-out party. If Sokka comes, it'll mean he doesn't hate you. Once we get him to be your friend, it's happening," that doesn't sound like a half-bad idea.
"Sure, that sounds fun,"*Aang POV*
After planning for a while and grabbing like a thousand shirts, we head up to the checkout. The woman at the counter looks at it and laughs. She's wearing a shirt that says "If there's sex without love, why can't there be love without sex?" I ignore it. I'm still pretty sure it's a phase for me. (It's not)
"Your first time here?" I nod vigorously. She rings us through and we're equipped with shopping bags. I'm glad I brought my staff because it's useful for carrying all this stuff. "Have a nice time!"When we get back to the dorm, Sokka looks at us. He raises an eyebrow at all the stuff.
"Must've been one hell of a shopping trip," the girl who's the other peer tutor in gym class looks up from Sokka's bed. He's at his desk.
"Yeah. Must've been," she said. Her name was Suki, right?
"Zuko needed a pride flag and we accidentally went overboard. We got a bunch of stuff!" I hold up the bags. Suki shakes her head and laughs. Zuko and I grab our stuff and put it in our drawers. Zuko carefully takes out the flag and pins it to the wall. He looks really happy.A/N More fluff. Deal with it. I love fluff, even if it isn't romantic. Sadly, the fluff will most likely not last. Did you enjoy my super gay chapter?
