We're Stuck

*Sokka POV*

Aang falls asleep. Oh, we're in a dilemma. We got kidnapped. It's freezing here. Getting back to Ba Sing Se is the only sound plan right now. Aang is shaking. He's probably having a nightmare, but if I wake him up we're not going to be able to keep moving. Keep moving. I should do that now. Crawl around the perimeter of the island. Keep my eyes on the sky. Make sure we can escape if we need to. The sun is starting to rise. Let's get going. I wake him up.
"Too early,"
"We need to get going,"
"Right. Let's go," He twirls the staff and the wings open. I get on the back. Once we're flying steadily, I fall asleep.

*Aang POV*

My arm really hurts. But if I let go, Sokka and I will spiral to our deaths. Just hold on. Sokka needs to sleep, so I can't waterbend us. Hopefully, the next island will have a signal. Wait, they'll track his phone. Fuck. Just keep moving. I see a landmass! Yes! Quickly now. We're about to land when I realize it's just a dark cloud. There are so many dark clouds. I guess I have to stay up here. It's probably stormy down there. A sharp pain goes through my arm.
"Aah!" I shout. Sokka doesn't wake up. Phew. We didn't go below the cloud cover either. Agh. Keep moving.

The storm is really big. I can stay above it for now, but it's got to have been at least three hours. Or maybe it's only been half an hour. My arm is killing me. I can't afford to crash land again. If I do, we'll be more broken and probably not be able to move. My vision is blurry. Ow. Oh right, I didn't take my contacts out. If I don't soon, I won't be able to see at all. I just have to keep them in until we land. How did they even get in? Maybe I can find a wind stream to drift on. Good. I'm exhausted and this will help for a bit. I can't let go, but less effort is needed. Time to think about how they got in.

They probably infiltrated the guards. Then they would come to the school and take us out with darts. Dragged us out. Put us on the plane. And we're flying in the freezing weather now. Ba Sing Se may need to up its guard protocols. Urgh. Ow. Everything hurts. I can avoid hypothermia because I learned how to combine warming breath techniques with firebending, but Sokka can't. Maybe I can just warm the air around- nope. That took way too much energy. If I'm not careful, I'll fall asleep mid-air and we'll crash to our deaths. Looks like I flew out of the storm. I can try to find land now. There's an island. The sun is starting to set. Land carefully! Got it. The landing woke Sokka up.
"We're landing? That felt like no time at all,"
"Maybe for you. I'm in so much pain right now. I wish I'd learned water healing," I drop to my knees.
"You should really put that in a sling,"
"If I put in a sling, we won't be able to fly,"
"We can swim,"
"ARE YOU STUPID! WE FLEW RIGHT OVER A STORM!"
"Maybe we can't. I've got a couple of bars. We can't be that far," He smiles hopefully.
"Maybe,"
"Looks like we've only got a few kilometres left. We could get back tonight!"
"In the morning. How far to the mainland?"
"500 meters,"
"Let's go. I can swim for a bit. Point me in the right direction," I hoist him up on my shoulders.
"Forward," I go straight. If we just keep going we can camp for the night soon.

We've been swimming for a while and it's starting to get hard to see. It doesn't help that I'm not wearing contacts. I spot the land.
"There it is! We're almost there!" Sokka yells.
"Faster!" I say while waterbending us further. We wash up on the shore.
"Thank Tui and La. We're almost there,"
"We can walk in the morning,"
"Yeah. I've been crawling around the perimeter,"
"That sounds stupid,"
"That's how it works,"
"I need to sleep. I'm carrying you again,"

*Sokka POV*

I'm just going to sit for now. Maybe people will notice us. I went to sleep at 5 in the morning and woke up at 4 in the evening. It's almost 6 now. Aang can get about 11 hours of sleep. I shut off my phone to save power. Maybe I should put his arm in a sling. I pull his flannel off. The one time it's useful he's wearing one. After it's ripped into triangles, I tie one of the makeshift bandages around his arm and hug it to his chest. I can hang on so he won't have to use his arm. There's a tree I can lean against. My stomach growls. Right, we haven't eaten for two days. Maybe I can distract myself with puzzle knots. Back at the Southern Water Tribe, we'd tie knots and others would try to untie them. If you learned to untie it, the person who tied it would show you how. I learned a few dozen before we moved to Ba Sing Se. I got through three when I hear the bushes move.
"Who's there?" I say. No response. Maybe I can eat it. I crawl over to the bush and see a teenaged girl sitting behind it. "Hello?"
"Hello," She says.
"Who're you?"
"I could ask you the same,"
"My name's Sokka. The guy lying in the dirt is my friend Aang,"
"Kinda weird place to sleep,"
"We escaped from kidnappers who were taking us to the Fire Nation. We haven't eaten in two days,"
"Want something to eat Sokka?"
"Can you tell me your name first?"
"My code name is Rabbit. I'll tell you my real one if you follow me,"
"I can't leave Aang here,"
"The Avatar will be fine. Come on,"
"You know! How,"
"Everyone knows that the Avatar's name is Aang. And Aang isn't a very common name. Peaceful soaring,"
"Our soaring hasn't been very peaceful. Are you sure he'll be safe?"
"Listen, I'll bring someone back. They can guard him,"
"Okay. I'll wait here,"
"Bye Sokka," She says and runs into the woods.
