Kyoshi Time

A/N I needed something to write before my next planned chapter, and I realized that I have this. Enjoy.

*Toph POV*

I was walking to my dorm when Twinkle Toes almost runs right into me. I can't 'see' him as well because he's light on his feet and doesn't create as many vibrations. But I think he did that on purpose. 
"What do you want Twinkle Toes?" I nearly laugh remembering the last time I said that. Sokka had responded with "Don't answer to Twinkle Toes, it's not manly,"
"Can we head to the Kyoshi statue? I figured out how to do that thing," I raise my eyebrows. This is good. It's been like 3 months since he promised. I guess his word isn't worth shit after all. 
"Sure. Just let me grab something," I walk over to the door and kick the door down. Katara stares at me. 
"Sup Sugar Queen. How'd your little talk with Rockstar go?" she groans and I feel her lie back down. Good job Nebula. I quickly grab my bag with my headphones and converse clip-on bottoms and head towards the door.

When we get to the statue, Aang sits down. What the heck is he doing? All of a sudden his heartbeat just flat out stops. No joke, either his heart stopped beating or something is blocking my seismic sense. It comes back in about 3 minutes. Then he yells.
"YES! I did it!" Great. Wonderful. I get to meet Kyoshi. Except I can't feel her. "Oh right, you can't 'see' her because she's a spirit. Umm, Avatar Kyoshi, can you talk so Toph can get situated?"
"Sure Aang, but this is an interesting place you've chosen for me to meet her," She's about a meter to Aang's left. 
"It's the most private place I could think of near the school, and Toph likes it here. But you're probably talking about the statue, aren't you?"
"Yes. How'd she even find this place?"
"I noticed a secret area over here. It's a great place to practice earthbending. I always make sure to leave it the way I found it though," I am TALKING to Avatar Kyoshi. This. Is. AWESOME. I need to calm down. 
"That's... very respectful of you,"
"She only has this much respect for you. Even I get CRUSHED and turned into a good luck charm," How is he so casual. Wait. It's like he's talking to himself. This isn't as weird for him.
"That's because you are a good luck charm Twinkle Toes!" 
"Twinkle Toes?" Kyoshi asks. Aang lowers his head.
"Everyone gets nicknames. And mine JUST SO HAPPENS to be Twinkle Toes,"
"It's cause he's light on his feet. I can't even sense him half the time,"
"I don't know if I should be flattered or offended by that statement," Aang glared so hard at me I could feel it. "Why don't you sit down Toph. It's kinda weird to talk with one person standing,"
"Yeah, sure thing Fancy Feet," 
"Fancy FeEt?" his voice cracked and I can't help but laugh.
"Nobody said I couldn't have spare nicknames,"
"Whatever. Why don't you explain your seismic sense to Avatar Kyoshi? I think she might find it interesting,"
"Remind me why we started calling it seismic sense again?"
"Sokka,"
"Yeah. That makes sense. Anyway, seismic sense, name courtesy of Captain Boomerang, is an earthbending style that I learned from badgermoles that allows me to sense vibrations and 'see' the world. That's how I found this secret area. I can 'see' things others can't and it lets me know where things are. The only drawback is that I have to dismantle my shoes," I hold up my foot to show the soleless converse. "Sometimes I just want to stop 'seeing' so I clip the bottoms back on. I guess it's kinda like closing my eyes,"
"How come you never explain it to the teachers like that?" Aang asked.
"Cause teachers are convinced that they're the only smart people in the room and that they can't learn anything from a little blind girl. But who cares about them? I'm the second greatest earthbender in the world!"
"Who's the first?" Kyoshi asks.
"Why you of course! No one can compete with you, so I'm not even going to try,"
"But you invented metalbending!" I told Aang about that a few days ago. I'd just perfected it.
"Trivial,"
"Metalbending? I thought bending metal was out of the question,"
"Yeah, it was. But I learned through my seismic sense that metal is just purified earth. If you focus on the little bits of earth within the metal, you can actually bend it. I'm trying to teach Twinkle Toes, but he sucks at earthbending period," 
"Don't tell Kyoshi that!"
"It's alright Aang. Your birth element is Air and Earth is its opposite. You need a very different mindset to earthbend than you need to airbend. Airbending was fairly difficult for me to learn, though it was easier for me than some Earth Kingdom Avatars because my mother was an airbender,"
"Oh right! The fans. Didn't she abandon the spiritual beliefs of my people though? That weakened her airbending,"
"Your bending can get weakened if you abandon your spiritual beliefs!?"
"Earth and Water can't really be affected by that. Airbenders are more connected with the spirits than other benders, which means if they lose their connection, their bending can be weakened. Firebenders can be similarly affected if they lose their drive in life," I was scared for a minute there. But I guess it connects with the fact that we have to be near our element to bend. Firebenders can always bend unless they get cold. And airbenders are on a different level completely. But you can't exactly remove air.
"That makes sense. But this doesn't affect the Avatar, does it?" it shouldn't because the Avatar isn't required to take on the spiritual beliefs of the other nations to learn the elements.
"Not really, except for their birth element. If Roku had lost his drive, for example, his firebending would have most likely been weakened," Aang knows a lot about this, but he does have the advantage of residual knowledge from his past lives. 
"Well, this was a good talk, but I've got some tutoring to do. Thank you Avatar Kyoshi," She disappeared.
"And..." Right.
"Thanks for letting me meet Kyoshi, Fancy Feet," He just shook his head and got up. We headed for the school.

A/N Sorry if Kyoshi is a little weird. It occurred to me that I had no source material for Kyoshi in a regular conversation. I haven't read the novels yet. Don't spoil them, please!
