*Toph POV*
I feel Sugar Queen sit down. Right, she can't sit with Jet and his jerky friends anymore. I'll get used to it. Aang leans over and whispers in my ear.
"Toph, I have to tell them. They'll find out in a few months anyway. Zuko and Sokka already know,"
"Okay. I'll tell everyone to meet in my dorm after school. We shouldn't say it in front of the whole school,"
"That sounds good. Thanks, Toph," He replies. Two more people sit down and Zuko shuffles away.
"Let's sit here Mai. We can claim our own table when Azula gets here," These idiots.
"You usually ask to sit somewhere before you do," Sokka says.
"Come on cutie. You had empty seats!" Ty Lee says. Sokka pushes her away from him.
"You're a little close for comfort. I have a bubble," Sokka gestures around himself.
"You do? You don't mind when I get too close," Aang says through his salad. I steal the apple off his plate. "Hey! Give that back Toph," He says, but cuts himself off with a yawn. His heartbeat goes nuts.
"I know you. Aang, you need to get better sleep," Sokka says.
"I'm fine," Aang lies.
"You're lying Twinkle Toes. Have you considered sleeping in?"
"I don't need more sleep!" Aang yells. His heartbeat goes nuts. "Sorry for yelling. I'll go eat somewhere else," He picks up his tray and walks over to a tree. He jumps. He must be sitting at the top.
"That didn't go well," Mai says.
"Who's turn is it to talk to him this time,"
"I did it yesterday, but I'll go again!" Zuko says, abruptly standing up. He firebends to the top of the tree with his tray.
"Does this happen a lot?" Ty Lee asks.
"It happens to all of us. We rotate emotional support. Except for Sugar Queen. She just clings to Aang," I say matter of factly. It's true.
"That sounds dumb. Why don't you just live with your issues and ignore help?" Mai says.
"Because it's not healthy! We're a decent friend group. Maybe you should talk to your friends about your issues," Sokka says. He's got a good point. Aang and Zuko come back. They sit back down and exchange a look. Aang eats his food in silence.
"So, what'd you two talk about Sparky?" I ask Zuko.
"Nothing big. If you need to know, Aang can tell you," He replies. Mai and Ty Lee finally leave.
"Thank Agni those two are gone," Zuko says.
"Okay, I need everyone to meet in our dorm after school. Aang has something he needs to tell you guys. Everyone but Nebula, Katara and Suki already know, so other than those three and Aang, you don't have to come," I say. Everyone stares at me. "What?"
"You used our real names," Aang says.
"It was gonna take too long to say the nicknames, so what of it, Twinkle Toes?"
"Nothing. I guess you saying nicknames is kinda comforting," He says.
"They were supposed to be mocking, but you do you. We have to get to class," I grab Aang.
"Whoah!" I drag him after me. We have science with the Mechanist. If we don't show up together, the teachers get suspicious.Science is boring. At least we have gym class next. I get to crush everyone else. I hope it's dodgeball. I throw, Aang catches so no one gets hit. Piandao is too much of a wuss to separate us. We get usually get Sokka too. He's a decent throw, and his catch isn't half bad.
"Alright, everyone. Doctor Dodgeball. Pick your teams," Piandao says. Yes! (I love doctor dodgeball. The best dodgeball game) Sokka, Aang, Suki and I are on one side. We dominate this class.
"Don't the peer tutors have to split up?" Says a wuss from the other side. Some girl named Song.
"That's right," Piandao says.
"We call Fangirl!" I say.
"What! I feel betrayed," Sokka says.
"Sorry Captain Boomerang. We had to give the other team the better player," I attempt to wink at Aang, who barely holds back his laugh.
"I feel honoured," Sokka walks off all goofy. Aang can't hold back his laughter anymore.
"Sorry, that was too funny," He says. I smirk.
"Yup. Fangirl, you can be doctor, Aang and I are on defence and offence," I usually do the planning. If this were a battle, I would be a great planner.
"I don't know how I feel about being the healer,"
"You get to fight too. You're the best at stealth," We all have training in various fields, self-taught or otherwise, Suki is the stealth master. Aang is the best at dodging and catching. I better just pelting out attacks. My seismic sense isn't cheating because it's my way of seeing. I find their doctor quickly. It doesn't help them that they chose Sokka. "It's Boomerang," I say.
"Sokka! Even I noticed that! You should never yell out that you're attacking someone for a sneak attack!" Aang grabs a few more balls and passes them around.
"Attack!" I yell. In the chaos, I'm able to land a perfect hit. Sokka folds his legs and sits down. It doesn't take us long to win.
"WHOOO!" Aang picks up my hand to give me a high five. He and Suki exchange one.
"Best team. Sorry, Snoozles. We won again," I reach out my hand for a shake. He grabs it.
"It's not fair. You guys are the ultimate dodgeball team,"
"We would still win even without Fangirl. And Aang and I can't get separated due to school rules surrounding disabled kids," I smile at him.
"Exploitation," He grumbles under his breath.
"It's not cheating," I yell back at him. "Come on Twinkle Toes, we have art," Aang runs after me.I like art almost as much as gym. I get to express myself and no one can judge me. Sculpting is my area of expertise. All of my pieces are abstract because I just do what feels right. I stop using my seismic sense during art. Once I have a shape, I use the tools to add textures so I can admire it when it's done. Aang decides to sculpt with me today. The teacher, Aunt Wu comes over. She insists we call her that.
"Hello, Toph. Hello, Aang. I see you're enjoying sculpture," She says.
"I love sculpture. It's fun and I can do whatever I want," I curve a piece of clay to create a trunk-like thing. I need more clay. I grab some and put it on top. Aang says my art is pretty because I just stick colours together. They mix and look beautiful, at least according to him. I smooth and twist. I hear snickers behind me.
"Of course the blind girl's looks the most ridiculous. She can't even tell what she's doing. Or what colour it is," One girl snickers. Ugh. I pick up a tool. It's one with a bunch of tines. I brush it over my sculpture before picking up a spoon. I stick it all over the sculpture.
"Don't listen to them Toph. I think it looks amazing. They just can't accept unconventional art," Aang puts a hand on my shoulder. I smile. Aang always knows what to say.
"Yeah, you're right. I think this is ready for the oven," I hold up my unfinished sculpture.
"I think mine is too," He holds up his. I can't tell what it is, but I'm not focusing on that. We put them in the oven and set the timer. I've managed to find the perfect time and temperature for the final part of the process. Aang pulls out a sketchpad. I put my hand on it.
"What're you doing with that?" I ask.
"Doodling. Would you like to try drawing? It's kinda like 2D sculpture," He rips a page out and puts it in the ruler thing that I use for writing. It's so I don't run off the page because I can't see the edges.
"Sure, sounds like fun," He pulls out a bunch of pencils. I rummage through them until I find one with a texture I like. I put it to the paper and let my hand wander around the page until I get bored. I pick up a new pencil again and again. I can't see it, but it seems done to me. The timer dings. Our sculptures are done.
"I'll get them," Aang gets up and goes over to the oven. He puts them down in front of me.
"Can I feel it?" I ask.
"You should probably wait until it's cooled,"
"That would make sense," I say. Once it's cooled, I feel it. I like it and that all that matters. While I'm feeling, the vice principal comes in. Ugh, this guy. His ego is bigger than the palace and he's got no common sense. He only has the job because a government official keeps him in it. Gow, I think his name is. (Thanks ATLA official wiki for giving me a jerk character)
"Children. We're having an emergency assembly to announce the identity of the Avatar earlier than expected," He says.
"And that couldn't have been a loudspeaker announcement?" Aunt Wu asks.
"Not for this class," Gow smiles. I feel Aang's heartbeat go nuts. This is way too early. I grab his shoulder.
"It'll be fine. We'll figure it out," I say.
"We were gonna tell them today. I had finally accepted it is early, but not this early," he's shaking like a leaf. This is really bad.A/N I blame the FNaF music for motivating this plot twist. Da Games. Hahahahahahaha. Am evil. Have fun!
