"Get. That. Blasted. Fool. AWAY from me!" I yelled, glaring at Javert.
"Gavroche, please. Let me explain," begged Marius.
"I'm not lettin' you do anythin' until you get that bloke outta here," I complained.
"Gavroche," Marius sighed.
"Please," stated the girl with the beautiful blonde locks.
"Gavroche, please, I -" began the inspector.
"NO!" I shouted. "I WON' HEAR OF IT!"
"IT'S ABOUT AVENIR, SHE SAVED MY LIFE!" bellowed the inspector.
What? I froze. I looked to Marius, who stared at me gravely, while the girl next to him nodded. "It's true, little Gavroche. Your friend Avenir saved his life."
Javert pursued, as my jaw hung open, unwilling to believe. "It's true. I could not live with myself after the barricades, after betraying the one group of individuals who trusted me, and....because I was admittedly wrong about a case which tested every fiber of my being. I could not live with being wrong. I tried to throw myself into the Seine."
"So that's why Avvi got the willies every time she crossed there..." I muttered. "She knew. I can't believe it. Why you? Because of you, her brother is dead. Grantaire, too. My sister."
"Jean Prouvaire's fate was cast the moment he risked his life for Avenir in the future. His loss was a great tragedy, and unfathomable. I killed the guard who killed him. The guard who shot your sister was Marshal Soult himself, who is still at large, and that's why I need your help. Your sister gave her life for you, she saw the future ahead of you..."
"Don't you talk about my SISTER!" I screamed. This man could never understand...
"I watched my own mother die, in front of my eyes..." he murmured, and my eyes shot up. "In a jail, too. She died for me, so I could have a better life. I promised myself I would correct the system that had broken her so much. Please, I beg, let me help you do that...for my mother, and...for your sister."
"We've had many a chat, Gavroche," confided Marius. "We're all going to work this out together, yourself included."
"An' how d'we do that? Jus' us, reformin' the system? We're gonna fail," I retorted, feeling utterly hopeless.
"There is a way to help," spoke Javert, placing 'is hand on my trembling hand and looking directly into my eyes. I winced at his fierce glare, but made eye contact. I can always tell when someone is lying by the look in their eye...Gee, he was telling the truth...
"It's going to be ok. This I swear to you tonight," he said, and a small tear fell from his cheek.
