(A/N: I've wanted to include this song in my story for awhile now!  Jos Slovick sings it, and he's the faceclaim for Av!  It's short, but I really want to showcase how unfair it is that Av has never had the time to really reflect on their feelings or how they'd spend their time in a life without any danger.  Enjoy!)

Avenir POV:

I opened my eyes wearily, and groaned, staring up at the extinguished streetlamps of Rue Plumet as the sun shone brightly in my eyes.

Morning already...I had been here less than 24 hours and I had already messed up a possible chance to carry out Lamarque's wishes.  I also felt an impeding sense of doom.  Sooner or later, I would have to face my fate...I would have fight on the barricades again.

As for right now, I had to find Javert.  Time had been wasted on my exhaustion, and I couldn't waste any more.

I leapt to my feet, then immediately had to sit down again as another feeling swept over me.  Rather, an inclination, or a knowing.

Lamarque was...dead.  Or about to die.

I could feel it within my conscience.  There was no saving him now...

I took a moment to myself, head in my hands.  Then I straightened up, and slowly trudged my way into the police station, leaving my red hat under a bush two blocks away, and hiding my rosette under it.  Anything that would distinguish me as being recognizable had to be left behind.  As it was, if I ran into Soult, I was toast.

"Bonjour, I'm here to speak with Inspector Javert..." I started.

"Inspector Javert is a very busy man -" the secretary mansplained to me.

"It's ok, I'll wait here until his next break," I nodded, going to sit in the small waiting room next to... " 'Chetta?  Musichetta?  Is that you?"

"Avvi?  Oh, Av, I thought you and Enjolras were going be writing speeches all day..."

"We both decided it would be smart for me to build upon my allyship with the Inspector here

"We both decided it would be smart for me to build upon my allyship with the Inspector here...I thought you had a shift at the Musain right now?"

Tears filled the corners of her eyes.  "Oh, Av...I was caught last night with Bossuet over at my apartment...and it was only for tea!" she cried.  "My next-door neighbor reported me...she's evil and figures I'm up to scandalous things...especially because she's seen me with Joly before.  She's out to get me and..."

"...doesn't realize that love is love is love?" I growled.  "What a primitive pest!"

"I have to report to Inspector Soult."

"I'll go with you," I blurted.

"Oh no, Av, I've heard he's the one running the National Guard.  You mustn't, you mustn't!"

"Your neighbor needs some serious help, and Soult should understand that."

"Please, I beg of you, I'd be happier in jail than have you speak to him!" 'Chetta pleaded.  "I need you safe!  I'm doing what I can from here but...I need us both to stay under the radar."
