It's been so long since my last update and I'm planning to finish this novel by the end of the summer. Before I do too many new updates, here's a recap on how the situation stands:
1. Marseille has declared war on Paris by attacking innocent citizens in an event known as The Flash, which brainwashed everyone and removed their memories so they are complicit to the dystopian government of Marseille.
2. Enjolras tried to bring Avenir back to 1832 Paris but she chose to stay behind to try to help people during the Flash. She passes out and has her spiritual moment with 'Ponine, Jehan, and Grantaire and then wakes up in her old labor camp dorm, where she is being held.
3. Éponine, Jehan, and Grantaire have passed away and in a trippy encounter with Avenir, they have hinted that she should return to the barricades because there's something that still needs to be done.
4. This something is, of course, the speech that Enjolras makes in the brick, which Avenir has memorized but Enjolras never gave (aka me the author fixing a plot gap from book one :D)
5. Who's in the past right now: Gavroche, Javert, Marius. Everyone else is in the future.
6. Enjolras and Courf had a falling-out because Enjolras feels in his heart that Avenir is in Paris and Courf goes to Marseille, reuniting with Avenir and saving Nadeleine Pontmercy.
7. A new girl character has been introduced; she is head of the Unnamed (aka all the kids like Avenir and Jehan whose parents or ancestors did something against the dystopian government so they're punished by being sent to labor camps, otherwise they're on the run from the police).
8. The Parisian Honor Guard (good guys!), led by Maximilian Javert, is either destroyed or in hiding; we haven't seen them yet. We also don't know what happened to the leader of Paris, who was also an Unnamed.
9. Avenir uses the "E" artifact to stop time and other cool things like heal wounds. The artifact gives her Rapunzel powers XD but we still have no idea where it comes from.
10. Enjolras discovered the Vault of Names in Paris, where he finds out Avenir and Jehan are descendants of the head of the 1832 National Guard, Metias Soult. He doesn't get the chance to tell anyone anything, because he is captured. But he does know Jehan's full name: Édouard Soult, and he also knows Avenir's full name but we don't...yet :)
