The New Girl

Scared

"Hi sweetheart where have you been?" My Mum asked as I got in the door.

"Mum... I need a hug!" I said as I walked over and fell into her arms.

"Oh darling what's wrong?" She asked squeezing me tightly.

"Aljaz's Mum doesn't like me, and she threatened me! I had a panic attack on the way home! She doesn't want me and Aljaz seeing each other but we love each other and want to be together!"

"She threatened a sixteen year old girl?! Wait until I get a hold of her!"

"No Mum! You'll only make it worse! I don't think she'll listen to anyone anyway! She doesn't seem like the kind of person you could reason with!"

"I will not let her get away with threatening my daughter!! Who does she think she is?!"

"Mum just wait until Dad comes home, you could both go over then, but I'm not letting you go over there by yourself! You don't know what she's capable of!"

"Okay just go upstairs and do your homework, I'll shout you when dinners ready."

I walked into my bedroom and fell on to my bed and cried my eyes out. I couldn't believe a grown woman had threatened a tiny sixteen year old. What kind of person does that? My phone started ringing, it was Karen. I wiped away my tears and picked up.

"Hello..."

"Janette, what's wrong? Have you been crying?"

"No no I'm fine. What's up?"

"Well I heard you fell out with Dianne after school."

"How did you hear about that?"

"She told me, I've already spoken to her. I really don't think you guys should fall out over something as stupid as who's more flexible than the other. You two are best friends!"

"I know I don't want to fall out with her!" I said starting to cry again.

"Janette what's wrong? Has something else happened?"

"Um... yes. You can't tell the others about this, not yet anyway."

"What's happened?"

"I went over to Aljaz's house after school and he asked me to be his girlfriend. I said yes of course but when we told his Mum, she said he wasn't allowed to have a girlfriend and when I went to leave, she threatened me and had me up against the door before Aljaz pushed her off of me."

"Wait she did what?! She can't get away with that!" Karen shouted.

"Don't worry she's not. My Mum and Dad are going over to speak to her. I'm so scared though I like can't stop shaking!"

"Calm down Janette, I'm sure your Dad will sort her out! I have to go get my dinner but I can phone you later?"

"Yeah that's fine, I'll let you know how it goes!"

I put my phone down and tried to do my English homework but I just couldn't concentrate.
