Dance Class

"Right Janette, start talking!" Amy said as soon as she answered the phone.

"I was out a walk and I bumped into Aljaz and he asked me to come over and we got talking and the next he kissed me... it was magic Amy!!" I said thinking about the moment.

"That sounds so romantic!"

"It actually wasn't. We were just sat in his bedroom, nothing special!"

"You're so lucky! There's so many girls that have a crush on him and he chose you! Sounds like something from a fairytale!"

"He said he liked me from the moment I walked into English!"

"Change of subject, are you coming to dance tomorrow after school?"

"I didn't know it was on, remember I'm still learning that school! Is Dianne going too?" I know I was friends with all the girls but I think Dianne is probably my best friend, since she took me under her wing.

"Yeah Dianne will be there. Has Dianne told you about her dancing?"

"All I know is that she moved here when she was 10 to pursue her dancing career. She didn't tell me anything else."

"She's really well known in the dance world, recently her big competition was in Blackpool Tower and she won her section, becoming number one in the ballroom world!"

"Wow... that's amazing, I can't wait to see her dancing tomorrow! Right Amy I have to go but I'll see you tomorrow!"

"Bye, don't stay up all night thinking about Aljaz!"

"Amy shut up!" I said hanging up the phone.

I lay in bed thinking about my kiss with Aljaz, I know it was my first one and I don't know what it's like to kiss a boy but I can't think about anything else!

The next day after school we all headed to the dance studio.

"Janette have you ever danced before?" Katya asked.

"Yeah all the time! Being Cuban I grew up dancing with my Dad, and then I started taking Salsa lessons! I'm called the salsa sensation in my house. My Dad calls me his little pocket rocket, because I'm small and fast apparently!"

"I've always wanted to learn the salsa! It's my favourite dance to watch!" Nadiya said as we got into the changing rooms.

"Hi girls. Oh I see we have a new face."

"Hi Miss Maclennan! Yes this is Janette, she's new." Oti said.

"Hi Janette, I'm Miss Maclennan, but you can call me Laura! Have you danced before?"

"Hi Laura. Oh yes, my favourite dance is the salsa!"

"Well we are going to be doing some contemporary today, have you done that before?"

"Um a little but not much." I suddenly started to feel a bit nervous. I'd never really done contemporary before, but I wanted to learn everything I could to be a better dancer.

"Oh that's okay, Amy is our contemporary queen, she'll keep you right!" Laura said reassuringly. "Okay everyone, spread out, we're going to do a little warm up to get started."

"Can you remember the group dance?" Nadiya asked Oti.

"All I remember is Dianne and Max are the leads!"

"Ooh who's Max?" I asked.

"That's my boyfriend..." Dianne said coming over to me.

"Where is he? Is he cute?" I asked excitedly.

"Calm down Janette!" Dianne said laughing. "He's over there!"

"Oh wow, he is quite cute!"

"Back off he's mine!" Dianne warned pointing her finger at me.

"Hey she doesn't need to take Max from you, she has Aljaz!" Amy whispered.

"Shut up Amy!" I hadn't told anyone else about me kissing him yet and I wanted to keep it that way for a while, until I had spoken to him again.

"Oh yeah have you spoken to him since you bumped into him?" Katya asked.

"Girls, can we keep the chatting to a minimum please?" Laura said sternly.

"Sorry Laura." Dianne said.

"Amy and Katya, could you go over the last section with Janette while I go over the lead part with Dianne and Max?"

"Sure."

"Okay wow, how are you so flexible?" Katya asked as she turned round and found me practicing my side splits with my head on the floor.

"I don't know, I just kept doing this everyday until I got better. I've never really needed my flexibility for salsa but I guess it'll come in handy here!" I said laughing.

"Okay but don't let Dianne see how flexible you are, she'll be super jealous! She hates how un-flexible she is." Oti warned.

"Surely she wouldn't hate me for how flexible I am?"

"Dianne is one of the best dancers in this group, the only thing that lets her down is her flexibility. So yeah if she finds out anyone's more flexible than her, she's going to hate you..."

"I'd be happy to help her..."

"Can't see that going down too well but hey it wouldn't hurt to offer
