The New Girl

New School, New Start

"Janette, wake up!"  I heard my Mum shout.

I opened my eyes and sat up in my bed. I was starting my new school today and I was so nervous, I didn't know what to expect. I had lived in Miami for most of my childhood but then my Dad got a new job over in the UK, so we had to move. I dragged myself out of bed and went downstairs to get breakfast.

"How you feeling about your new school?" My Mum asked.

"I'm a bit nervous. What if I don't make any friends?" I asked giving her a hug.

"Don't worry darling you'll be fine. Go and get ready and I'll take you."

I went upstairs and put my uniform on and put my hair into a messy bun, I couldn't be bothered doing anything else. I put a little bit of make up on and grabbed my bag and ran downstairs. We got outside the school gates and I felt my stomach flip.

"See you later darling, have fun." My Mum said as I got out of the car. I turned and gave her a wave and tried to hold my tears in as she drove away.

"Come on Janette, you're a big girl now, don't let anyone see you crying." I said to myself as I wiped them away and I headed into the gates.

"Are you new?" I heard someone say and I turned my head to see a girl with gorgeous red hair standing in front of me.

"Yes, hi, I'm Janette. I'm not sure where I'm meant to go."

"I'm Dianne. I'll take you to the office and they can get you sorted."

"Thank you!"
