"Kuroo, I don't want to!" I tried to pull my hand out of his grasp but he was too strong.
"C'mon, give it a go, you'll enjoy it I promise," he said with a smile. I tried to wriggle from his grasp before finally giving in, realising he wasn't going to let go, so I let him drag me towards the volleyball club's gym. I had just started my first year at Nekoma, and Kuroo had just started his third. He was a friend of mine from outside of school, he lived near me so we'd often play together as our mums became close friends.
I didn't have too many friends thanks to my awkward nature. A few times Kuroo had asked me to meet his friend Kenma but I refused, as I felt too awkward. Starting at Nekoma High School terrified me, but thanks to Kuroo I was able to get past the first day, even if he was a third year and I was a first. Now however he was keen for me to come out of my shell, hence the fact he was now dragging me towards the gym in the hope of making me Nekoma's volleyball manager.
I had been to a few of their games, watching quietly from the stands as I was too intimidated to cheer out. I watched the ball bounce around the court but never really took in what I was watching, I'd just later tell Kuroo that he did a great job as always. Suddenly however I was diving deep into the volleyball world, by being forced to be a powerhouse's manager.
With one last tug, Kuroo pulled me into the large gym catching everyone's attention. I stood awkwardly, my eyes becoming fascinated by my shoes. "Gather round everyone!" Kuroo called out to the team but I still refused to look up, that was until he nudged me harshly.
I glanced up, glancing around at the guys, most of them smiling brightly at me. There were a few who seemed slightly stern, and one who was apparently ignoring what was going on. He had blond and brown hair, he was small with slightly tired-looking eyes, but he was definitely so cute. "So this is (y/n), she's gonna be our manager!" Kuroo said proudly.
"W-wait! I'm not- I mean I don't know yet if I will be, Kuroo just dragged me here against my will," I pouted, looking up at the messy haired boy.
"Kuroo do you even know her or is she just some random first year you picked up?" Another small player said, him having short light hair.
"'Course I know her! She's a friend of mine, lives on my street. (y/n), stick around for a few practice sessions, you'll like it. Oh, and that's Kenma, the guy who you didn't want to meet when we were younger," Kuroo said making my eyes widen and my heart stop as the cute boy glanced towards us. As I properly saw his face I realised just how adorable he was, but Kuroo's sentence still played in my head.
"I-I never said I didn't want to meet him!" I exclaimed, looking angrily up at the tall captain.
"Yeah you did, I asked you so many times to come and play volleyball with us and you refused each time," he said nonchalantly and I clenched my fists, refusing to meet Kenma's eyes that were still on me.
"That doesn't- I didn't-,"
Anyway, stick around and I'm sure you'll like it. Lev, grab a chair for her."
"On it!" The tallest player said, doing as his captain commanded. I awkwardly glanced towards Kenma who already had his attention back on his phone, and quietly thanked Lev as he placed the chair beside me with a sweet smile. Throughout the practice I sat quietly, my eyes drifting over to Kenma who was rarely showing expressions, but his skills as a setter were really showing. Kuroo had told me about the various positions before but I only loosely listened, admittedly not having much of an interest. At practice matches I mainly watched Kuroo, hence the fact I had never really noticed Kenma until now and the former was correct when he said that I hadn't wanted to meet the latter simply because I was nervous. Now however I regretted not meeting him sooner, as he was incredibly cute and I knew I wanted to try and talk to him more.
