"Look what you've done!" Fitz said with his strong Scottish accent.
Yes, this was my fault, but how could I know Jemma would be watching us doing something that seemed wrong even though it wasn't?
Fine, yelling and pushing Fitz doesn't seem very right to me either, but that's not the point here. He had no right to take blood samples from me without permission in the first place.
"Stupid door! Why is the code not working?" He said punching it.
"Perhaps you don't know the right code. Take a step back. Leave it for the professional"
I tried to put the code twice but it wasn't working. That meant that because we were in a containment room, designed to keep dangerous people in it, there was an option to deactivate the code we knew to a classified one.
Short explanation: We were stuck in it most likely because of Jemma. She deactivated the only code we knew.
"You're so smart, Riley. Would've been better if you didn't fail. How did you know the original code, though?"
"Exactly because I am that smart"
"I can't believe Jemma's mad at me and locked us both in here"
"Don't you have a phone or something?"
"I don't use my phone at work, I was only coming to see you"
"I'm hoping someone else comes to see me as well right now" I said before taking a deep breath.
"Do you have any superpowers?"
"No, Fitz. I'm not using any power here. I haven't been trained to use them"
"So, that's a yes. It wouldn't work anyway. This room is very well protected. Wait- you don't know how to use your powers?"
"I do. Sort of. But I don't really use them. I'm scared"
"You know S.H.I.E.L.D could help you with that. I'm sure Daisy would love to train you"
"No, thanks. I'm fine being my true-self. I don't want to be a monster"
"How did you get them?"
This was the story that everyone was curious to know. Not that many people knew my secret anyway.
It all started before the second World War. No, I'm not that old. It started with my grandfather. Because he was the oldest guy in the military, he was forced to be an experiment.
He tried the same serum as Steve before he did. However, because he had different experiments already in his DNA, the mix was a bit explosive. Yes, he survived, but ended up with inhuman powers.
He made sure to keep it as a secret from everyone. Everyone thought that he was a failure because nothing ever worked on him.
Risking his life only to have an ordinary life in the army was an act of bravery. Steve and Bucky were his only true friends who never left him behind despite what everyone was saying about him.
His superpowers included heightened strength, agility, balance, vision, and retractable claws. He passed those abilities to my mother and she passed them to me. It's been in our DNA since then.
I was too young when my grandfather told me about his stories and the possible superpowers I would have in the future, which is now. I understood why he didn't want any spotlight. He could've been Captain America and still chose not to.
My mother never cared about me and ended up using her powers for the worst. She committed a lot of crimes and I don't want anything to do with her. I want to be a hero simply by being a secret agent. Without any need to use my abilities.
