XVIII - Choices

PETER'S P.O.V.

  I got in my meeting saying hi to everybody. Steve was there but didn't say a word to me as I obviously expected. He didn't even look me in the eyes once.

  They started talking about Riley, well, Black Cat, and Steve didn't even bother to argue with me when I kept mentioning I had no idea of who she was. How could we be a team if we didn't speak? I got the feeling Mr. Stark knew something was up.

"Aren't you going to talk today, Rogers?" Mr. Stark asked Steve.

"I'm sorry, I didn't want to come in the first place" He answered.

"Thanks Captain obvious"

  Steve rolled his eyes and faced his phone.

"Since when do you care about cell phones?" Mr. Stark continued.

"Mind your business" He answered.

  Mr. Stark ignored him and they proceeded the meeting.

"I think you should call her" I heard Natasha almost whispering to Steve who wasn't too far from me.

"I can't"

"Yes, you can. You can't just disappear from her life like that. What if there was a reason for it to happen but it didn't happen the way you think it did?"

"Needs to be a really good reason to be with someone like- him" Steve said clearly looking at me even though I wasn't looking back at him.

"What I meant was, what if she didn't cheat on you and you got it all wrong? You will only know the truth once you guys speak" Natasha said.

  I thought that maybe I should be the one talking to him. After all, I was innocent. I had no idea Riley was Black Cat. Problem is that he didn't know that either. Nobody knew. And I didn't care about what Steve thought anyway.

At least I got to see Riley again. We hugged and she seemed to be okay with me. It's always a good thing, right? Wouldn't that be the perfect time to try and get my luck with her again? I could do so much better now.

"I don't know what S.H.I.E.L.D's been waiting for. I'll capture her. That's the only way to know who she truly is and her intentions" Daisy, also known as Quake, said.

"Agent Johnson is right. We've been waiting for too long. Don't worry, we'll take care of this issue. Next topic?" Agent Coulson said.

  Once they finished talking about all the matters that needed to be discussed that day, it meant the meeting was over.

I let Steve leave the meeting first, so I could leave peacefully after him. Don't judge me, he's a very strong guy and I don't want to get a broken bone.

"Kid, is everything okay?" Mr. Stark asked.

"I am perfectly fine"

"I didn't want to tell anyone this, but I hope you know Spider-Man was spotted in every place that Black Cat girl has been through during all week. You're hiding something and I need to know what it is"

"I'm not hiding anything, Mr. Stark. I was only trying to find her- identity"

"We both know you can confront her if you wanted to. Who is she and what does she do?"

"I don't know. I need to go now"

"You're not going anywhere until you tell me the truth. You're a bad liar, kid"

  I am good at being in trouble even when I do nothing wrong. All I was trying was to protect a friend. Riley.

"I am trying to stalk her without her seeing me, I've got no clue, I swear" I told him.
