XXIII - Promise

STEVE'S P.O.V.

"Don't do it, gentlemen" I heard Agent Daisy Johnson, also known as Quake, saying behind us.

"I'm afraid we have to" Peter said throwing spider-webs at her and starting a fight.

  Quake was stronger than the three of us together and I was well aware that she could kill us all (the entire world in fact) if she wanted to. She was that powerful, so fighting against her could definitely take all day and leave us exhausted without finding Riley.

For that reason I simply stopped fighting to stare at all of them. Eventually, they all stopped as well and Quake looked very confused.

"This is pointless" I said.

"So is a circle. What the hell are you doing!?" Bucky said yelling at me.

"We work together, we should all be on the same side"

"We've been through this before, Steve. People you work with won't always be on your side" He said.

"Just to make things clear, I am. On your side. This time. Cap" Parker said.

"Guys, just go home. Whatever you're trying to do it won't work. You know how secure S.H.I.E.L.D. is" Quake said.

"We wouldn't be here if Coulson told us where she was, why she's here and what is happening there" I said.

"She's fine, Cap"

"Then prove it to me. I made it all the way through here, and honestly- I'm an Avenger. This is absolutely ridiculous. Don't you think I deserve to know?"

  She took a deep breath, looked around, and finally agreed to help me.

"Listen, I will do this for you due to all the respect I think you deserve to have, and because I know how happy she was with you in the past, but you really can't tell this to anyone. You too boys"

"I won't let you down, Agent Johnson"

"Let's go"

"What about us?" Peter asked.

"She was not very happy with you last time I checked" Quake said answering Peter.

  I smiled.

"Stay here and don't try to do anything stupid" She continued opening the door for me to follow her.

  I was happy that she gave me the chance to see and speak with Riley to make sure she was fine. The whole place was a mess, dark and scary in some way. Why would they leave an intern locked up there and what was the extra training for?

"Whatever you already know or whatever she decides to tell you, I hope you know we're only doing what's best for her" She said while introducing a code to open another door.

  I got in the room as soon as possible and couldn't find anyone there.

"Are you sure this is the right place?" I asked.

  Quake got in the room as well.

"Impossible" She answered pointing at a huge whole on the wall.

  I couldn't be more confused than that. Would they be lying to me to gain some time for whatever reason?

"I am getting a little impatient here. Where is she!?" I yelled.

"She was right there I swear! I need to call backup"

"Backup? It's just Riley! For god's sake"

"Yeah. Just Riley"

"What happened to the 'you know how secure S.H.I.E.L.D. is'?"
