VI - Man Behind the Suit

  Next day in the morning, I woke up in the same place. I looked around and found Steve sleeping on a chair next to me. No one could be a better Captain America than him.

He is a gentleman, good friend, strong, nice, and many other things. He thought of me and brought me roses! And spent the night there with me just so I wouldn't be alone. Or perhaps to protect a loved one of an old friend. It's hard to believe that this is my actual life right now.  Sounds like a movie.

  The hardest thought I was having was how Peter came out of nowhere and disappeared again. I thought I had some feelings for him when we spoke, but maybe I shouldn't. Forgetting him was the first step to feel better and happier.

"Steve?" I whispered.

Steve opened his eyes slowly and looked at me with a huge smile on his face.

"Good morning, miss"

"I still can't believe you spent the night over here" I said.

"You fell asleep and I just couldn't leave you alone"

"We're at S.H.I.E.L.D, I couldn't be in a safer place"

"They've been attacked before and even had some traitors as agents. I would never risk your life like that. Besides-"

Steve stopped talking looking down at the floor.

"Besides what?"

"Dealing with that couple yesterday- Are you sure you didn't know them? They seemed to be very- Obsessed with you. They wanted to find you, Riley"

"I've never seen them before"

They wanted to kill me and every other inhuman, but Steve mustn't know about the reason why they picked me.

"I really don't understand why, but I promise I will. Coulson is going to put some agents interrogating them later on. We will find out why"

I was about to get in trouble! If the couple opened their mouth to mention that I am an inhuman, my life would be over. I didn't want to be seen as an experiment like my grandfather and definitely didn't want my friends and colleagues thinking I am a liar and a traitor.

"Thank you Steve, but I think you've been working a lot and focusing too much on me. The Avengers need you for bigger problems"

"Don't be so modest, Riley. I can manage my work. I have time to help you and that's what I am going to do. That's what Todd would want"

He was helping me thinking of my grandfather, isn't this guy like the greatest human being on earth and space? I still had to push him away from this.

"Hey, let's get up and eat something!" I said disconnecting some wires from me.

"You're staying here until someone tells you, you're fine" Steve said stopping me.

"Can you tell Fitz to come here, then?"

"I am right here" Fitz said getting in the room.

"That was fast" I said "Fitz, can you tell Steve I'm okay and ready to leave this place? I'm tired of being here for no reason!"

  Fitz looked at me for a moment in silence.

"You know what? I don't care"

  I started getting up and no one was trying to stop me.

"Okay. You can go, but you'll have to let me analyse you later" Fitz whispered to me so Steve wouldn't listen.
