XVII - Broken

"I know exactly what is going on here" Steve said.

"You do?" I asked confused.

"Be honest with me, Riley"

  I started panicking and was about to start crying.

"I- I don't even know how to start. This is really hard for me. For both of us" I started.

"I know this is about cheating"

"Yes"

  Peter was slowly and quietly getting down from the ceiling ready to talk about the situation. Steve didn't notice him.

"Sam was right"

"Sam? He knew?" I asked.

"There's nothing to know because I never cheated on you"

  Peter and I looked really confused at each other.

"Sam told me how ladies are these days. He said you'd start thinking I was cheating on you if I didn't visit you often enough"

"Of course he said that" I said sarcastically.

"Seems like you thought that way and I would like to apologise for it"

"No, I am sorry"

"Shh- I have been the worst boyfriend lately. I'm sorry for not coming any sooner"

  Steve hugged me. While we were hugging, I could see that Peter grabbed his mask from the floor and quietly left to my room. Steve didn't notice anything.

"Stop, Steve. I can't do this anymore"

  Suddenly, Peter put his head out of the door making signs to tell me to stay quiet. I didn't want any problems with any of them.

I loved Steve but it's never fair to be unfaithful to someone like him. I had to break up with him and tell him the truth no matter how hard that would be and how much it would hurt. I don't deserve him.

"I promise I will be a better boyfriend"

"You are the greatest boyfriend I've ever had"

  And I started crying.

"What's wrong? Why are you crying? I love you" He said.

"I don't deserve you, Steve. I'm not who you think I am"

"You are! You're just like your grandfather! Funny, smart, nice, a good friend... it's so great to be around you. I couldn't help but fall in love with you"

"No, stop"

"Sorry if that sounded wrong. You're more than just like your grandfather, but being beautiful is only an extra out of all those qualities that made me fall in love with you"

"Steve, I need to be alone"

"I understand. I'm sorry. I will call you later"

"No. I mean- alone"

"You don't like me anymore?"

"I do. That's the problem"

"How is that a problem?"

"I can't do this to you"

"I will give you some time to think and to calm down. Whatever happened today, I can tell it was bad. I'll always be there for you. Give me a call and I'll be right here"

"I know what you're thinking. This old man doesn't know how to use his cell phone. For your information, Sam put a different ringtone when you call me so I know when it's you" He said smiling.
