Mila Made it on the freeway, going home after a long day of writing emails. She wanted to change lanes but the truck next to her didn't see her car and drove straight into hers. The car spun and Mila closed her eyes, bracing herself for the impact that was yet to come. She bounced from left to right but then everything stopped. She felt an ache in her neck as she slammed her head on the steering wheel. She opened her eyes, everything was foggy and she saw smoke coming from her car, her front window smashed and her forehead was bleeding.

Mila was trembling in her seat. She knew she needed to get out of the car, but she was frozen in her spot. She heard voices outside of her car but she just couldn't move. "Miss are you okay? You need to get out of the car right now!" A voice screamed. The door to her car was opened and she was pulled out of the car. She tried to stand up but her legs gave in and she collapsed on the floor. "We need an ambulance!" Some yelled.

Mila's breathing began to pick up. She felt like she couldn't get enough air. A panic attack started to form inside of her chest. Silent tears streamed down her face as she tried to calm herself down but it was no use. Memories came flooding back in her brain.

The music was playing in the car, Mila smiled as she listened to the banter her parents were throwing back and forth. "What do you want for dinner honey?" Mila's mother asked her as they were driving home from their beach day.

It was spring break and Mila and her parents went to the beach for some family time. The sun was setting and they were all tired from spending their day in the sun.

"Can we do to that little Italian place, the one we went to for my birthday?" Her parents looked at each other with a smile. Happy they had their little girl with them for her spring break, even if she was already eighteen. "Sure honey," her dad said as he looked at her in the rear mirror.

"Babe look out!" Mila's mother screamed, and before they know it the car is spinning, the shattering of glass is the only sound that could be heard as time seemed to slow down.

Mila openend het eyes once everything went quiet. She looked into the front seat, her parents were lying there, lifeless and the only thing Mila could do was let out an ear piercing scream.

Mila sobbed as the memories took over her brain. She could hear sirens as she sat, curled up on the side of the road. She didn't know what is was, she blocked every voice out, she heard them but didn't listen, until she heard a familiar voice calling out for her. "Mila? Is that you?" She looked up to see Lando running towards her. He kneeled down to look at her. "What happened, is everything alright?" Mila tried to open her mouth but she knew that no sound would come out.

"Sir, do you know her?" Mila looked up and saw a paramedic approaching her. "Yes, I know her." Mila only looked at the two men in front of her. "We need to take her to the hospital to check her out, the impact she took was quite heavy. Lando nodded and the paramedic helped Mila on a stretcher.
They tried to roll Mila into the ambulance but Mila grabbed Lando's arm. She had a terrified look on her face and her eyes were making pleading looks at Lando.

"Can I come with her?" Lando asked. The paramedics nodded but Lando looked behind him. "Give me one minute, I was riding with Jon, I need to tell him I'm going with you." Mila nodded and watched as Lando walked towards his car. The freeway was blocked by the wreckage caused by the truck and Mila's car. Not one minute later Lando appeared again and grabbed Mila's hand. "Calm down, I'm here," he whispered as he kissed her scuffed knuckles.

The stretcher with Mila on it was wheeled into the ambulance and Lando sat down next to her. The ambulance took off and a paramedic sat down next to Lando in the back.

"What's your name honey?" He asked but Mila couldn't give him an answer. She grabbed the tag around her necklace and gave it to him. Lando was curious as to what it said, Mila looked at him her eyes going between him and the medic. "Her name is Mila Jones, she is mute. I think that is her medical tag." The paramedic nodded and took the tag from Mila as he began to examine it. He typed away on his tablet, the tag consisting of everything he needed.

"You were very lucky Mila, it could have ended very badly. She nodded her head, she knew all too well how it could have ended. Lando caressed her hand with his thumb, it calmed her down that he was by her side. It meant a lot to her that, even though they only met today, he dropped everything and came with her.

Once they arrived at the hospital, the paramedics handed Mila over to the nurses so they could take her for an x-ray. "Sir, you have to wait here. We will call you as soon as she's out." The nurse told Lando and he nodded, sitting down on one of the plastic chairs in the waiting room. Lando leaned back against the chair and let out a deep sigh. It was a bit surreal that he just met Mila today and was already in the hospital with her. It had been a long day and Lando was tired of being in meetings and driving the simulator all day. He leaned his head back and closed his eyes for some rest, falling asleep not much later.

"Sir, Wake up." Lando stirred, jumping slightly when a hand on his shoulder shook him awake. He opened his eyes and faced the friendly face of a nurse. "Goodmorning" The nurse chuckled. Lando blushed slightly, "Mila is awake and is ready to have some visitors." Lando nodded his head and followed the nurse towards Mila's room.

Lando knocked on the door, waiting a few seconds before entering the room. Mila was sat upright in the bed, bandages wrapped around her head and her left arm was wrapped in a cast. "Hey you, how are you feeling," Lando asked as he walked over to the bed. Mila shrugged, telling Lando she didn't know how to feel right now. "I have something for you, I got it in the gift shop." Lando pulled a wrapped rectangular gift from a bag. Mila had a confused look on her face as she looked at the gift. She put her finger under the tape to unwrap the paper.  Mila smiled widely as she unwrapped the paper and got the content out of its package.

"It's a small whiteboard, so you can talk to the doctors, and to me of course." Lando grinned as Mila took the cap of the marker so she could write. Lando admired Mila's pretty handwriting as she wrote something down. "Thank you, Lando." "Don't worry it is nothing, otherwise I have to guess everything you want to say, and I'm not good at playing hints." Mila laughed but her face turned serious in a split second. "I'm not talking about the whiteboard Lan, I mean thank you for being here, with me." Lando's heart fluttered slightly at the nickname, it had been a while since someone called him Lan, only his parents and his siblings called him that, but he didn't mind if she did it.
