"Good morning! I'm here with your release papers." Lando lifted his head from the bed. He had fallen asleep in the chair next to Mila's bed, but he rested his head on the bed next to her. Mila's hand was caressing Lando's head which made him fall asleep last night. The two of them just talked and got to know each other. They listened to some music and figured out they had similar tastes in music.
Lando rubbed his eyes as he watched the doctor walk into the room. "Oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't know you were still asleep." Lando stood up to make some room so the doctor could do whatever it is he needed to do. "How did you sleep, Mila?" The doctor asked as he checked her charts and wrote something down, he looked up to look at her and Mila showed him two thumbs up to which the doctor nodded. Mila grabbed the whiteboard, "I can't wait to go home." The doctor chuckled, "Well, fortunately for you, you can go home after you sign these discharge papers. When you filled them out, you can hand them to the nurse at the front desk and you can leave. Goodbye Mila, Lando" Mila waved at the doctor, and Lando nodded his head.
Mila filled out the forms and Lando grabbed Mila's stuff, "You ready to go?" Lando asked as he grabbed his bag. Mila held up her face mask, a reminder for Lando to put his on also. Lando nodded and grabbed his mask out of the pocket of his jeans. They handed the forms over to one of the nurses and walked towards the exit of the hospital together.
Mila looked around the parking lot, not really sure what to do. There were no cabs in sight and Mila obviously didn't have her car with her. Lando noticed that Mila was uncomfortably looking around, "Jon brought over my car last night, so I will take you home right now." Mila wanted to protest but Lando didn't take no for an answer and guided her towards his Mclaren.
The drive was around an hour long so Lando handed his phone over to Mila so she could play some music. Mila closed her eyes and rested her head against the window. "I love this song," Lando said which made Mila lift her head so she could look at Lando. He looked sideways at her, he could see a small twinkle in her eyes. She crossed her legs and leaned her back against the door. She grabbed the whiteboard from under the chair. "You didn't have to drive me all the way to Londen, I am very capable of taking a cab or the train." It took Lando a while to read what Mila had written as he was driving. "I'm not even going to argue with you, we are here, by the way." Mila grabbed her bag and stepped out of the car, "You want to come in, Lan?" Lando nodded his head and followed Mila up the stairs of the fairly large home.
Mila opened the front door and dropped her stuff under the coatrack. Lando took of his coat and shoes and followed Mila into the livingroom. "Do you want something to drink?" "Yes please, anything is fine," Lando called to her as he was snooping through the living room, he looked at her pictures, some with friends, some with family. He picked up a picture, Mila was smiling while, who he believed were her parents, were standing on either side of her. They looked happy, Lando jumped as he felt Mila's hand on his shoulder. He turned around and took the glass filled with ice tea from her as they both sat on the couch.
"That picture was taken around two years ago on vacation. They died that vacation." Mila fiddled with her fingers. "Oh god, they died while you were on vacation? What happened?" Lando didn't want to pressure Mila into anything but he felt like they trusted each other so took his shot. Mila sat down next to Lando, close, so he could read what she was writing.
"It was my spring break and we were on our way back from the beach. We were just about to grab something to eat as it was getting late and we were all hungry. My parents were bantering back and forth with each other. It was something they did, joke and banter, but always out of love. I admired them for it, for their love for each other." Mila had to wipe down the board once Lando read everything, so she could write some more. "I don't remember seeing exactly what happened but from what I heard from the police, a drunk driver took the wrong turn and drove on the wrong lane, he drove head-on, straight into our car. I just remember screaming my parent's name, the car rolled over a couple of times and we came to a halt on the edge of a lake. Police said I was lucky because if we rolled over one more time I would have drowned." Lando saw a tear land on the whiteboard, which resulted in the ink spreading, making a stain on the board.
Lando wrapped his arm around Mila's shoulder. He kissed the top of her head, "thank you for telling me, it means a lot". Mila wiped her tears and grabbed the marker again. "I feel comfortable with you, so I don't mind telling you stories about my past. I hope you feel the same way." Lando nodded his head, "I do, but I think we have had enough heavy conversations for the next few days, don't you think?" Mila laughed and nodded. "Sorry for bringing the mood down, I sometimes can't understand how police could say I was lucky. I lost my family that day, nothing in that situation can be described as lucky."
Mila scraped her throat and stood up, scribbling on the board and turning it around for Lando to see. "If I'm up for food? Of course, I'm up for food!" Mila laughed as she took Lando's hand and guided him towards the kitchen. Lando felt his hand warm up as it was wrapped up in Mila's, as cliche as it sounds, he got slight butterflies in his stomach. "I have ingredients for pasta if you like?" Mila grabbed the bag of pasta and held it up for Lando. Lando closed his eyes and balled his fist like he won something, "YES! Jon is going to have my head tomorrow, but it is going to be worth it, I'm sure. You know, why don't you let me cook and you can just sit down and relax, you had a rough day." Why not? Mila thought in her head, she nodded and jumped up on the counter, sitting cross-legged.
Mila grabbed her phone and music could be heard around the house. Lando was chopping up vegetables and stirring in a pot while they talked. "So, you live here all on your own?" Mila nodded, "This was my parent's house, they bought it before I was born. I got it after they died, the only reason I can live here is that they paid off the mortgage." Lando nodded his head, "Is that the reason you still live here even though you work at MTC?" "Other than the house, they didn't have any money, so when they died and I had all these expenses. Let's just say that I don't have the resources to live closer to the MTC, and to be honest, I don't want to sell the house just yet." Lando nodded in understatement.
Mila hopped off the counter and went into the living room. She grabbed some plates and a bottle of wine and set them on the coffee table, not feeling the need to get formal in the dining room. Mila sat on the ground as Lando came in with the pan filled with a delicious smelling pasta dish. "It smells delicious, Lan. I can't wait" Mila put away the whiteboard. Lando grinned, "Bon appetit!" Lando said as they clicked their wine glasses together.
Lando and Mila were sat, facing each other. The two of them were laughing as they finished the bottle of wine. "Lando, it's getting late." "Yeah, I should go, sorry." Mila's eyes widened, it was not her intention to scare Lando away, not at all. She grabbed his shoulders so he would turn around to her and showed him the board. "Lando, it's getting late. You should stay the night, I don't want you to drive so far, this late." Lando let out an embarrassed laugh and scratched the back of his head.
The two of them were still standing in the hallway, facing each other and standing a little bit too close to one another. "Mila, I know we only just met, but I really want to kiss you right now." Lando looked down at his feet. Mila all of a sudden felt confident and grabbed Lando's face in between her hands. She looked into his eyes and planted her lips on his. Lando softly bit down on her bottom lip, "I have been wanting to do that all day." Lando whispered against her lips as he pecked her a couple of times.
