Jeffery wasn't seen again for the rest of that night. He was, however, seen walking out of the girl's Ravenclaw dorms the next day in the same clothes. Matt was the one who saw him walk out.
"He just stared at me," Matt groaned, his head in his hands as him and Millie sat alone in the library later Sunday afternoon. "Like he was disgusted by me or something. Bloody hell...what am I gonna do?"
Millie wished more than anything that she knew how to help Matt. She wish she could talk to Jeffery or seek out someone who would understand Matt's situation, but there was no way she was going to even ask Matt if he was okay with that. She had to be there for him at the moment; that's all she could do.
"Hey Millie!" Paisley came up to her and Matt. "Oh...sorry, I didn't realize you were with someone,"
"Oh, no it's fine," Matt said with a small smile. "Come sit...I'm Matt,"
"Paisley," she said back with a grin.
The three of them sat there for a little bit, studying and chatting and avoiding everything going on outside those library doors until Matt had to leave for Hufflepuff Quidditch practice.
"Tell Ced I say hi," Millie said to him as he got up to leave.
"I will," he smiled, bending down to quickly kiss her on the cheek. He then whispered, "Thanks again."
She smiled at him as he left. Once he was out the doors and starting down the corridor, Paisley spoke up.
"How is Cedric?" she asked. "You were with him yesterday, yeah?"
"Yeah," Millie grinned. "He's so great,"
"That's good," she said back. "You know, I've been meaning to ask...you said you guys had been on and off for a while, but you never really said why,"
Millie didn't want her to know about Fred. There was already enough tension and awkwardness between her and the rest of their Quidditch team, she didn't want to add any more. She also didn't want to blatantly talk about what happened with Isabelle, especially since Cedric had really, genuinely changed.
"We just had some...problems last year," she said vaguely. Paisley tilted her head towards Millie, looking her in the eyes with a stern expression.
"Mills," she scoffed. "You can tell me...I won't judge you or Cedric or anything,"
She looked back into Paisley's turquoise eyes. They were very hard to keep secrets from.
"Alright," she groaned. "He cheated on me a while back," Paisley's face dropped. "But everything is so much better now. He regrets it and we've both moved on,"
Paisley didn't speak for a moment. She just stared at Millie, her expression looking like every gear inside her brain was turning before she spoke.
"And you just forgave him?" she asked.
"No, not right away," Millie spat defensively. "We were apart for a couple months after I found out, but things are different now. He knew he'd made a mistake, and I was just so tired of arguing and being away from him...it wasn't worth it to keep waiting to see what was going to happen between us if we were both miserable,"
