The next day, Cedric didn't show up outside the Gryffindor common room to walk Millie to the Great Hall. She entered, slightly confused, to see him sitting with a few of his friends at the Hufflepuff table. He met her eyes, only to linger for a moment before looking back at his friends. It was like this at lunch and dinner, too. Clearly he got what he wanted out of this relationship, she thought as she came to the conclusion all he wanted was to snog her this whole time.
She didn't bother trying to talk to him since she was completely mortified. She should've known Cedric was like this; with how good looking and popular he was, this must not be the first time he'd done such a thing. He didn't talk to or acknowledge her all weekend. First period on Monday approached and Millie was nervous to face him.
She stepped into Transfiguration and sat in her seat, hoping maybe Cedric wouldn't show up. It wasn't until the minute before class started that he walked in. Millie looked at him with a scowl as he sat down; he didn't even glance in her direction. After nearly half the class, Millie had had enough. She leaned into Cedric slightly and began whispering.
"Why have you been avoiding me?" she asked quietly. No response. "Merlin's Beard, Ced, at least say something,"
"You're not paying attention to the class," he murmured, eyes fixated on the black board as he copied down the notes.
"You're kidding me, right?" she scoffed. "I should've known you would do this. I feel so stupid,"
She rolled her eyes and went back to copying down her notes.
"Do what?" Cedric whispered, aggravation evident in his husky voice.
"Snog me then completely cut me off," she muttered.
"You think that's what this is?" he started, his voice raising.
"Mr. Diggory," Professor McGonagall called from the front of the class. "Will that seat be a problem?"
"No, Professor. Sorry," he answered, looking back to his parchment. When she continued her lesson, he mumbled under his breath to Millie. "You have no idea what your talking about, Barrett,"
"Oh I don't?" she whispered sarcastically. "Then explain why you haven't spoken to me since last Wednesday,"
"Now isn't the time for this conversation,"
"Then when is?!" Millie exclaimed.
"Miss Barrett," Professor McGonagall scoffed. "Please move your seat,"
"Gladly," she mumbled, gathering her things and walking over to the desk clump she sat at on the first day.
Cedric looked back at her, his expression apologetic yet angry. He didn't want to explain, but he knew she deserved an explanation. He liked her too much to let her think he was that type of person. He just wasn't ready to talk to her about it.
When the class ended, Millie got all of her things together as quickly as she could before exiting the class and getting as far away from Cedric as she could. The following days were the same. The pair avoiding each other and slowly realizing more and more how much the other meant to them. It was torture being away from Cedric for so long, but Millie was also so mad at him that the pain was almost worth it to see him clearly as upset as she was about the situation.
Everything had gone back to the way things were before Cedric and Millie grew close. Fred and Angelina were happier than ever, Alicia, George, and Lee were constantly trying to get Millie to sit with them again, and Cedric was struggling in Transfiguration; however, this time, not only did she miss Fred terribly...she also missed Cedric. She now had two boys she was mad at, but needed them just the same. She was completely lost.
