KRYSTALLIA
"We have three hours till midnight," I said, looking at my watch as we rode on the roller skates we stole from a store after dinner.
"Then let's end the night with one more break-in."
I looked at him, "Where?"
"The ice-skating rink we used to go to when we were kids."
My face lit up at his suggestion. That rink would always close annoyingly early, but it was a really nice rink.
We roller skated to the place and I looked at the lock on the front door. I took out two bobby pins and started working. Sam kept on the lookout as our guys disabled the cameras in the area. The cameras in the building can only be disabled once were inside.
After a while, the lock came undone and I slid the chains out of the door levers before pushing it open.
We went to the counter and looked up at a camera. It flickered before moving down and I knew they've done their part. I took off my roller skates and jumped over the counter.
"I'll get the guards to join us. You prepare the shoes?" Sam asked and I nodded. He pulled out his phone and I started taking out the shoes we needed.
A few minutes later, the shoes were laid on the counter, and the guards assigned to us arrived. I took the skates my size and wore them. The others and Sam followed suit, wearing their skates and we walked over to the ice rink.
The rink was big and spacious. We had enough space for everyone to have a bunch of fun. We stepped into the rink and Sam grabbed my hand before skating me around.
We twirled and skated across the ice with the guards and had a pretty nice time.
"Krystie!" Sam called from the other side of the rink. He twirled his finger around vertically, signaling a trick we would always do. I nodded and the guards skated to the side. Sam and I started skating towards each other and right before we crashed, we hooked our elbows together and I backflip, landing on both feet.
Did you know the backflip is an illegal ice skating move? But there are no cops here so I think it's fine.
Sam picked me up and twirled around on his skates, "I thought we would still be a little rusty but it's perfect!"
I laughed and he set me down. We continued to do different tricks we did when we were younger as we spent the time counting down to our curfew. Even the guards had joined in to try out some tricks we had up our sleeves.
After a while, Dylan, who was skating towards us, pointed at his wrist, "We have fifteen minutes till midnight."
We nodded and skated out of the rink. The guards followed and we took off our skates before exiting the building. We didn't bother to lock the chains as we can't, so we just headed to the empty parking lot where the SUV and other cars were parked.
"One more thing I would like to do to finish this joyous day," Sam said and knelt down to rummage his bag. I put my bag in the car as I waited for him. I squatted down, wrapping my arms around my knees as he continued to go through his bag.
Until he pulled out a firework. Not just one actually, he had multiple in his bag. How? Don't ask, it's Sam.
"Where did you get that?" I asked and he smirked at me, giving his bag to Dylan, "I took it at the toy store when you weren't looking."
I raised an eyebrow and he did a lighter motion, positioning the fireworks. I yelled for a guard who smokes, "Damien, your lighter!"
He took his lighter out of his cigarette pack and tossed it to me. I caught it and threw it at Sam. He caught it just as it passed his face, "You should probably stand back, Krystie."
I stepped back until I was beside Dylan. Sam lit the end of the fuse and ran to stand beside me. The fuse slowly shortened until it was gone.
We thought it didn't work at first.
Until it did.
The fireworks took turns and blasted up into the air, exploding into multiple balls of colorful sparkles. We watched as the fireworks lit up the dark sky with its bright colors.
Too soon though, the fireworks ended and the guards took care of the leftover things. I saw Dylan check his watch and his face went pale. I stood on my toes to get a view of what he was seeing, "What is it?"
"It's midnight."
"So-"
Wait.
Midnight.
He glanced between Sam and I, "Before midnight, okay? You're still not safe," he pointed to me as he said that and pointed at Sam, "And you may attract the FBI to come knocking at my door."
"Before midnight, okay?"
Before midnight.
Before midnight.
"Oh, shi-" before I could even finish swearing, my phone began to ring. I fished it out of my pocket and could feel colors draining from my face.
